Words left me when I finished and finally closed the book. I spent moments in silence as I stared at the photos in the back and was filled with so much emotion yet empty. I placed it on the arm of my chair gently tracing the numbers 32407 & 34902 with my finger while doing so. Showered and felt so much sorrow as the water trickled. Still empty but overrun. Words, thoughts, emotions were lost to me. I am drained yet so very glad I read this book and read Lale's story.

Based on a true story set amid the tragedies and horrors of war, Heather Morris has written a book that simply took my breath away. She beautifully writes of hope and survival against unimaginable odds in a gripping and powerfully uplifting story of love.

I am having such a difficult time putting together reviews this last few weeks. There is so much more that could be said in support for recommending this truly amazing story, but for now I'll just say that you should definitely put this on your

. I am just not a huge Nazi historical fiction gal. I had a phase where I read too many depressing Nazi historical fiction novels and I haven't been interested since. That being said, I had heard rave reviews about this book. I thought it was interesting, but honestly, I thought it was hyped up. It just didn't merit all the acclaim, IMO.

Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew, becomes the Tätowierer, the tattooist of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps. Lale falls in love with Gita.

It's based on a tru

Saw this everywhere and decided to check out the audible version. Not sure why. Spent much of the book wondering why someone would write about this. It completely redeemed itself when I learned it was based on a true story about a Czech jew who was sent to Auschwitz and met the love of his life. It becomes a story of maintaining hope in the face of relentless darkness.
Jen Ifer's Inklings
This story was told in a very captivating way while still highlighting both the horrors of Auschwitz and the hope and resilience that many of the captive exhibited.

A very memorable read

A very memorable read that opened up my mind and filled it with compassion to all the victims of the horror of conflicts around the world.
