Whoever said that these books start getting good after #3, well, they were right!

Full of action, Harry's irreverent, snarky sense of humor at the most inappropriate times and an impossible situation that he has to get himself out of, this audiobook was a delight to listen to, especially with James Marsters' masterful narration.

I am still not a fan of the fae, who play a significant role in this part of Harry's story, but it was interesting solving the mystery alongside him. (view spoiler)

The series is getting better each book.

First paragraph:
It rained toads the day the White Council came to town.

I got out of the Blue Beetle, my beat-up old Volkswagen bug, and squinted against the midsummer sunlight. Lake Meadow Park lies a bit south of Chicago's Loop, a long sprint from Lake Michigan's shores. Even in heat like we'd had lately, the park would normally be crowded with people. Today it was deserted but for an old lady with a shopping cart and a long coat, tottering around the park.

Harry Dresden is back, and this time

The Flooze
Summer Knight is another quick, action-packed read. Harry's ass is on the line (when is it not?) as he contends with an impending Fae war and the nervous, vindictive White Council.

He has to solve a murder, find a thief, and prevent all of heaven and earth being torn asunder. At the same time, he must prove his worth to the crotchety Senior Council members who'd love to see him fail. Oh, and help a few damsels along the way. Will the poor guy ever catch a break?

My favorite Harry Dresden book so far. Maybe because Harry finally stopped lying to Murphy and they actually, honest to God, talked. So, Harry obviously IS capable of learning from his own mistakes. But I also liked the story, the Summer and Winter Courts, the White Council and the werewolves, Harry's friends. I'm glad that this was the first book that I finished in 2014 because it put me in a really good mood. ...more

Another great read by James Marsters. I love Billy and the Alphas ~ Harry's young adult werewolf pack. Add some Changelings, a long lost friend and war among the Fey and you'll be zipping along with Harry on his latest quest to save the world.

Overall, I really enjoy Harry Dresden as a character. I just found this book the weakest of the first four. I normally like stories involving faeries, but this one just didn't do it for me. ...more

Like this one much better than I expected to. The reader was great, just how I imagined Harry to sound.
