How I feel about this story, well it's complicated. To be honest I was distracted by other things when I started reading this, and so I'm not sure I gave it the attention it deserved. I'm not a huge history fan so the Victorian setting isn't my favourite, but I think Clare built the details of her world well. She created an imagery of Old London that is easy to imagine when you are familiar with it.

I quickly devoured Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series. It didn't take me long to snatch up the Clockwork Angel too. I did like this book, but I was a little disappointed in how much it tracked the same type of story as The Mortal Instruments. I know it is set in the same world, but there were too many similarities between the types of characters. Clockwork Angel is a young adult novel that has something for everyone: a bit of romance, a bit of steampunk, a bit of vampires, and a bit of paranormal suspense.

The novel is set in Victorian London, England. While Clare's writing does lean towards simplicity, she successfully bring the reader into her world with a mix of both historical reality and steampunk/paranormal fantasy.
