Have you ever read a book that you've liked, but you did not enjoy? I know that sounds strange, but this is that book for me. I feel like it was a good story that was written by a not so great author. Give the same story to someone else, and it could be a 5-star story. There were definitely moments that gripped me, but for the most part... I felt disconnected because of the poor writing and lack of real character development. It's hard to have an objective review when I have first watched the movie, but I really liked that book. Rythm and tension are perfectly balanced, descriptions goes traight to the point, for characters and for situations and even if I knew where it went, I was hooked all along, sharing Malorie's anxiety and terror.
I appreciated the insight we have in her mind, it gives us more background on the children's education and on her motivations. And the overall problematic, how far can we go to protect

I really enjoyed this. I don't usually read horror/thriller (at least not since my teen years) but this was a good one, exploring interpersonal relationships in the face of an apocalypse. I have not seen the movie; likely won't, as the book is always better than the movie! ...more
