Even as a kid I always wanted to go to Russia. But in the 80s that was a slim possibility. And too bad I didn't go when I could... cuz right now might not be so good a time either.
The Death of Ivan Ilych

This book definitely had a lot of musical references. Music was very important throughout. Perhaps one of the reasons that the band chose the name. I also thought that it had a very late-60s type of psychedelicness to it that would have been attractive to them at the time.
Ironically, though, Steppenwolf (the character) would have hated Steppenwolf (the band).

Update
H - Harry Haller - 1/27/22
Steppenwolf mentions a few actual compositions. I will be going with Mozart's
The Magic Flute.
Steppenwolf by
Hermann Hesse. A bizarre but interesting short book.

I finished
Lord Jim by
Joseph Conrad. I liked it much more than I thought I would. I think I could relate to JIm.

I'm starting
The Count of Monte Cristo. It'll be my 3rd read... but I want to do it along with the group.

Here's a link to the book on Project Gutenberg:

Discussion open a little early for the first Volume. Let the fun begin!

The first 6-Month book study of 2022 has been selected. Use this thread for general discussions about
The Count of Monte Cristo and the author,
Alexandre Dumas.

Finished
The Long Goodbye by
Raymond Chandler. Reportedly he claims it's his favorite book. I'd have to say it was my least favorite of the three on the LIST. But still good.

There's a few non-fiction on the list, but not a ton.
Glad to have you here and look forward to seeing what you are reading. Be sure to check out our group reads as well.
