9277 I took some time and went to the Fan Art thread on compuserve and read through some of the posts. It looks to me like Diana is interacting with the artist and giving her tips about what certain characters look like (which I assume she wouldn't do if she was offended by it). So you all are right and I am wr..rr..rrong...lol.

9277 She's promoting that "musical" also, but I think her point is she wants the opportunity to review and endorse (or not) all things Outlander related. Whether art or writing, it is a fan's interpretation of Outlander and not Gabaldon's own ideas. Take for example, The Exile: An Outlander Graphic Novel, would you consider that writing or art? I think there's too much overlap to call it.

9277 They are nice pictures but not how I envision Claire or Jamie. I would consider these "fan fiction" which Gabaldon discourages but personally, I don't see any harm in it.

9277 OK, you girls are in big trouble...I hadn't heard about the Outlander jewelry so I googled it and found this website. Now I know what I'm asking for for Christmas...lol....they have Jane Austen stuff too and other popular authors....arghhhhh....there goes my budget!

9277 Sharon,
You are preaching to the choir. It is nice to meet another Davina fan...we may have to start our own Davina Porter fan club. Have you listened to any of her other (non-Outlander) narrations? I have not but would like to. I don't want to hi-jack this thread so you can e-mail me if you like.

9277 That's a very good suggestion Susan but I always trade my books as soon as I read them. I'm hoping that once #8 comes out and completes the series that her publisher will put out a really nice boxed set...ideally I'd like to have all hard covers.

Sharon,
I agree with you 1000% regarding Davina Porter and the audios. I'm not sure I would have read all the books without her.

I have a friend who feels the same way as she read all the books back to back and now she is waiting for #8 and wondering what the heck she will find to read that can compare when they are done. She's wishing she had savored every word...lol. That would be a good thread...What Have you Found to Read that was as Good as Outlander? but it might come up empty!

9277 I am relatively new to Gabaldon but I plan to meet her soon as I live in Phoenix, AZ (where she lives). On the day The Scottish Prisoner is released she will be signing books at the Arizona Biltmore sponsored by The Poisoned Pen bookstore, so maybe I will get my chance then.

9277 Hi,
I am a new member and a new Diana Gabaldon fan. For years, people have told me what a great series Outlander is, and I collected all the books but never got around to reading them until this year. I'm now reading Echo....some of the books were so huge, they looked intimidating to me, so I decided to borrow the unabridged audios and listen during my very long commutes. This turned out to be a great option for me, Davina Porter is a WONDERFUL narrator and the pages have flown by. The only book I cheated on and got the abridged version was Fiery Cross because a friend told me that someone else must have inhabited Gabaldon's body when she wrote that one as it was not at all like the rest and she had a hard time getting through it as it was so boring. Anyway, I read in another thread that some of you are going to start a reread of the series and I thought I'd recommend the audios to those who want to reread but create a bit different experience. Porter truly is marvelous. Can't wait for #8.
