This just in....a woman at my work who has NOT read the books watched the first episode....she really liked it but her husband LOVED it. Interesting to hear the perspective of someone who has not read the books and to hear that some men are tuning in.

I know. That's why I'm sad and I'm afraid most men won't like it (like Mr Mike Hale from The New York Times http://www...."It kind of ticks me off that this Mike Hale is trivializing Outlander. Betcha he hasn't read any of the books.

I would think it quite odd that someone would object to "spoilers" if they are reading a thread titled "All About Outlander STARZ". Is anyone reading this who has not read the first book?

Just got done watching on StarzPlay and anxiously await the next episode. I thought it was a bit slow in the beginning while the background was being laid but I don't know how else they could have done it. As a fan of the books, I had no problems sticking it out until the interesting bits but I'm not sure whether general audiences will have the attention span for it. I thought the best scenes were Claire and Frank watching the druids (mesmerizing), Claire meeting Jack Black Randall and thinking he was Frank, and Claire setting Jamie's arm.

Great article and a clip I had not seen where she resets Jamie's arm.

First episode is free in the U.S. on Starz website or via StarzPlay starting tonite at midnight even for non-subscribers. Subscribers can watch via Starz on Demand and the series officially starts next weekend on August 9th.

I think I've pretty much figured out how my Starz on Demand works so this time tomorrow I should be watching Outlander! If I was really die hard, I guess I'd be staying up until midnight to watch but at my age, sleep is more important. Besides, if it's as good as I hope, I'll probably rewatch it several times.

If this has been posted before I apologize. I just saw where Starz is offering the first episode free on their website or on StarzPlay this weekend. U.S. only. Probably a promotion to get more subscribers but still, I was sure this group would be interested in the early release.

I live in Phoenix but will be on vacation during that time. The Biltmore is a huge venue so I'm sure they will be ready for it. Barbara Peters, who owns the Poisoned Pen is a great organizer.

I managed to get a deal from Cox where I added on Starz and HBO for $10 extra per month so my bill for basic cable, high speed internet, Starz and HBO is only $80/mo. I think it's always a good idea to call the provider and quiz them about what deals they have.

What Dee said....when you've already read a book or seen a movie/tv, you may have distinct ideas and nothing is going to work. I'm having that problem right now because I want to read
Blood & Beauty: The Borgiasbut the real Rodrigo Borgia looked nothing like Jeremy Irons in the tv series! I want "my" Rodrigo...lol.
Most of us love Davina.

If it's the same one they gave out at BEA, it is 43 pages.
Sally, above the comment box it says "add book/author". If you click on it up comes a box for you to type in a title or author and choose whether to show the cover or just a link.

Ladyhawk, I looked on Amazon and found that there are some reprints of Sutcliff's books available. One of them has been reissued as a Rediscovered Classic (which is Nancy Pearl's program). But appears my library chose not to buy any for circulation. I'm sure that happens a lot with older authors.

My library has a bunch of Rosemary Sutcliff books but they are all marked "in library use only" as part of the Children's Historical Collection. Looks like they have the original editions published in the 50's & 60's...I'm surprised they let anyone read them. It looks like a couple have been narrated into audiobooks, maybe I will try one of those.

You can rely on the Poisoned Pen....they are well established in Scottsdale, AZ where Diana lives. I live in Phoenix and go there occasionally although my favorite indie bookstore here is Changing Hands.

At BEA they gave out a 45 page booklet with excerpts from the first 7 chapters. Let's hope she's further along than that.
