Keep reading. Not all questions are answered in R but some are about Soren's compulsion.

Oh that looks good, Paris. I am a sucker for military characters and veterans... let me know if it improves.

He's used to not having to justify his decisions as a black op with a lot lot lot of freedom -- very liberal ROE (rules of engagement). (view spoiler) In the end, he is a warrior fighting a war. That is Julien.

Blackstone is the really hardcore group among vampires. They want Dominion - a state of existence that they have only ever dreamed but never experienced when they are rulers and humans are like feedstock and toys, as Julien explains to Eve in A. Would they be able to achieve that? I suspect not. Humans are wily and creative. They would resist - there would always be those who are resistant to compulsion and who would keep fighting. But it would be a hellish existence for humans. To attain it, they (view spoiler) We see the start of that in R.
We do meet Lord Blackstone in Book 4. If Soren is angling to be a 'god' through using the Church structure, Lord B wants to be like Caesar, or an emperor.

Hi, Brandy. Have you ever had those moments of clarity when you thought, "If only I had done?"
Michel makes many questionable decisions. They are always in what he thinks are in the best interest of his mission but which aren't always nice or right.
One of the themes I wanted to explore in my series is 'ends and means'. The perennial question of whether the means justify the ends. Michel has honourable ends in mind - preventing Dominion. Are the means he uses justified by that end? Could he have found others that cost him less? Cost others less? And if he fails, the cost to him and others could be unbearable.

I meant to reply to this before -- I worked for a while on our org's disaster preparedness plan and had to do all this scenario planning. So I've always been sensitive to how quickly things can go south when the world you rely on crumbles due to a disaster, natural or man-made. When I first read about the Carrington Event in the 19th Century, I knew that I would write about it in some way or another. I chair a committee that does planning for the chronically ventilated patient and so Sarah's story is very real for me. As I was writing R, I even asked the manager of a chronic vent ward how they would manage if the grid went down long enough that the petrol for the backup generators failed. He said, we'd hand-bag them...

Yes! I wasn't aware it was available. So, just downloaded it a few days ago and work keeps getting in the way!"
For some reason I thought you had read them all. R has a few moments... ;)

LOL - Vasily is so good at keeping on top of that sort of thing, you can just forget all about it...

Hey! Vasily takes care of all these details! That's why he's there - butler, chauffeur, security expert, cat babysitter...

Soren is strategic in every breath he takes.

If you are now reading R, some of Michel's difficulties with his own carnality and weakness may be explained. His motives become clearer for his actions in further books.

Julien had a reason to take him out. Something happened to make him a liability. He was compromised. Julien doesn't want to tell Eve details to protect her.

I think you have to pat yourself on the back. ;)

Bumpy? Wha? I think R is much easier to take than A. Overall sweeter in some ways... OH yeah... but then there's that... ;)

Keep us posted!

Are you insinuating that I am considerably bent ??? ??? ;) LOL!
I doubt there are many humans who don't have deep unmet needs of one sort or another. Needy creatures, we are.
