88432 The Mistborn trilogy is one of my favorites! Enjoy.

88432 Hi Cris,

I saw that the entry for Blue 5 (not skip) had disappeared too. I think Trio had put something there, but I'm guessing removed it? Maybe it didn't meet the word count requirements? I'm changing the designation to Blue Skip since yours fits that. Then if Trio's Blue 5 book accidentally got deleted, it can be added back easily.

And yes you have all of February to complete the entries. In one of the early posts Ashley put a link to the countdown timer for when February starts (it's a specific time and NOT linked to your time zone, so it is the same for all of us no matter where we live). I think I remember there will be a countdown timer for when March starts/February ends to help us know the exact transition time.

Edited to add: Here's the countdown timer -
⏰Countdown to UNO START! https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...
The challenge starts on February 1, 2024 at 9am UTC time.

88432 An example (for tomorrow!) - I feel like this might be more helpful than my words above.

Let's say I want to read Vicious (Villains, #1) by V.E. Schwab , but Red 7 has already been taken. I can put that book in for one of our WD4 cards and designate it is a duplicate of our Red 7 card. Now that I've done that, no one else can use any of our other WD4 cards for Red 7 again. You can only duplicate once.

We have four WD4 cards, so we as a team need to duplicate four (different) colored cards from our hands. Which is kind of nice if someone grabs one you were hoping for!
Jan 17, 2024 05:14PM

88432 It doesn't matter what hand it comes from. Hopefully that makes sense.
Jan 17, 2024 05:12PM

88432 For Wild Draw 4 cards we can repeat any of the other color cards in our hand, but only once.
so repeat any of these:
Color Cards:
🟦 5 Blue:
🟦 Skip Blue:
🟨 4 Yellow:
🟨 9 Yellow:
🟨 Skip Yellow:
🟥 2 Red:
🟥 3 Red:
🟥 4 Red:
🟥 7 Red:
🟥 Skip Red:
🟩 3 Green:
🟩 Skip Green:

88432 Hello -
Trio - I think we were on the same UNO team last year? Good to see you again. And I'm 99% sure you're right that you all use the planning spreadsheet and put all the different ways your book will work on there, while Ashley and I make them fit into hands on the official spreadsheet.
Megan - it may be a good thing that you're a baseball fan and I'm a football fan - alliances can't get in the way then! ;)
Harley - welcome to UNO and nice to meet you!

88432 Hello Andy and Megan!

Andy - one of my kitties is definitely into reading (naps) and it is definitely worth training them. The other pretends to enjoy reading, but then starts chewing on my bookmarks if I haven't paid enough attention to her, so I recommend keeping those out of reach if you use anything special.

I'll start off the color questions - does everyone think this could work for green? Weyward by Emilia Hart . Tineye says it's gray, but I disagree?

Megan - I'm in Cinci! But I'm originally from Green Bay, Wi so my football team will always be The Packers (The Cowboys have been a longtime rival, so yesterday's win was enjoyed so much!). But the Bengals are growing on me and I'm sad they didn't make it to the playoffs this year.

Also, if you think these team spreadsheets are magical, you must check out Ashley's year long challenge (the impossible Disney challenge) in the Hooked on Books group. I am mesmerized!

So nice to meet you both!

88432 Hello, I’m Lisa. This is my third year playing UNO and my first year co-captaining. I’m looking forward to a fun year! I also love the team reading challenge.

I live in Ohio (EST time zone, but I work nights so I might be awake and reading at any time) with my two cats Calypso and Maisie.

My favorite color used to be blue, but I’ve been migrating towards purple for the last 10-15 years. Are you allowed to change your favorite color? My favorite alcoholic beverage is an amaretto sour.

As for reading fantasy is my favorite, but I also really like historical and contemporary fiction.

I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and starting the game!

88432 I've finished! Thank you Ashley and Amanda for a great 3 months of UNO!

88432 I realized that the third book in Victoria Schwab's series has a red color - I'm going to switch to that for my last book. Bridge of Souls (Cassidy Blake, #3) by Victoria Schwab

88432 I've had another idea. Could we move The Violin Conspiracy to the get creative spot for Streaked Tenrec? The streaked Tenrec has quills that make a vibratory noise. The violin has strings which make a vibratory noise.

Then red cover would be open. I've downloaded The One-in-a-Million Boy on audio and should be able to listen to it by the end of the month.

88432 Question: Can we move Sea of Tranquility to the Sea Pen open category? If so, I will read All That Is Mine I Carry with Me as it is set in North America (Boston area according to my research).

88432 Now I see Laughing Kookaburra is filled - there's a lot to catch up on!

So my other idea is maybe the Sugar Glider category - that "get creative!" prompt is still open. The family is highly sociable in their community. The Mom and Dad own a restaurant; the mom plays an active role in their community association and organizes multiple social events during the course of the book. I'll put it there for now....

88432 I'm back from vacation! Our mini challenge spreadsheet looks so full - I'm impressed by how much we've gotten done.

Last night I finished Before I Let Go. I thought I added it to the spreadsheets, but I was on my iPad and it doesn't look like it worked. I had put it under the drinks a cocktail prompt for the mini....I'm not sure if there's anything else it will work for - it is a second chance romance book, and focuses on a family, so maybe the Laughing Kookaburra since they live in family units? although the family starts off separated. I'll re-add it to the main spreadsheet.

I'm working on my Victoria Schwab books; I should have them done soon.

88432 I am working on reading Violin Conspiracy. The only place that I can think it fits is Lilac Breasted roller which I believe had rusty red cheeks. If you agree that the cover is “rusty red” please sign me up for it. Thank you!

88432 Page 257: “He was 27 and had a mustache, but whenever she allowed herself to think of him as the kid from the hospital, her heart could not help but soften for him.”

Page 41: “They ordered chicken parmigiana, Sadie’s favorite, and ice cream sundaes.”

Those are two quotes I took pictures of for Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. I don’t have computer anymore and your message was fragmented on my phone so I’m not sure exactly what you said other than I couldn’t use it for three repeats. Hopefully one of those is still open. Otherwise I’ll have to wait to find something until I get back home in 9 days.

I just finished Shiver (4/15/23) - please mark it as complete on spreadsheet. I don’t think I put CFN Isabel, so you can add that too.

88432 The animal page on spreadsheet is done. I feel everything is accurate, but appreciate any feedback. Several of the animals are nocturnal, so I suggested character that works nights for that characteristic, but I'm not sure if we can repeat the same characteristic for multiple animals or if we have to find something unique for each one? Also, I put two checkboxes next to each animal's name so that if you claim a task you can mark it. That way we have a visual on that page of which tasks still need to be filled.

I've chosen a few more (short) audio books (Shiver, City of GhostsTunnel of Bones) that I can do as I clean my house and pack this week.

88432 I'm over halfway done; I'll likely finish up the list tomorrow. Feel free to edit or add to it as people see fit. I've listed some facts that I've found interesting/distinctive, but I'm not always sure how to relate these facts to a book prompt (and just put a ?). But maybe as people read their books, they'll be able to tie it in to one of these interesting facts....
Apr 10, 2023 06:47PM

88432 I'm glad this seems helpful. Instead of putting the descriptions in the text here, I made another page on the spreadsheet. There are now seven animals done. I'm putting them in alphabetical order.
Apr 10, 2023 04:08PM

88432 Wow - this mini challenge does seem hard! But also lots of fun...I wish my vacation had been in the beginning of the month now. But with it coming out on the 12th instead of 15th I'll hopefully be able to help more.

It seems like a good place to start is figuring out prompt ideas for each of the 26 (!!) teams for part 2 of the challenge. I've looked up three and will keep going if it is deemed this is helpful. Obviously this list is not exhaustive and just a starting point for these three.

1. Luna Moth -
a. color pale green
b. they are short-lived (as they don't have mouths/digestive systems) so maybe a book where a character doesn't live long?
c. luna = moon, so moon on the cover?

2. Narwhal -
a. color gray (speckled)
b. >75% found in Canadian arctic, so maybe book set in water or book set in Canada?
c. narwhal's horn is really a tooth; they are more common in males, but sometimes called origin of myth of unicorn so maybe a book with a unicorn?
d. narwhals don't migrate - so book set in one location?

3. Blue Footed Booby
a. colors blue, cream, brown
b. unofficial mascot of Galapagos islands - so book set in Galapagos
c. name comes from Spanish "Bobo" which means foolish - so book with foolish character?
d. the bluer the feet the more attractive the mate; during mating rituals males show off their feet to prospective mates with high stepping strut - so character with foot fetish or character that likes shoes?
