Great! I'll add it to the spreadsheet - I think all of the colored UNO cards are claimed now.

88432 It's been a few days since I've checked in, so here's my update.

I finished Hunted for the Beauty and the Beast retelling yesterday -I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

I'm currently reading The Rose Code and am about half way done. It will likely take me another 2-3 days to finish yet, though as it is a longer book. I also recommend this one for anyone who likes historical fiction. I have it on the mini spreadsheet for woman on the cover, but it will fit many categories (food, drink, party)

This weekend I plan on reading Kitchens of the Great Midwest. Kaley and Camilla, can you confirm this looks green to you? It is kind of a pale, mint green but I think it would still qualify for our Green 6 card. It will also definitely work for food for the mini and I have it on the spreadsheet for that category.

You would think most books would, right?, but this book's main character is Artificial Intelligence (a bot) and so it doesn't eat. At one point it mentioned that it ordered food trays while traveling basically not to raise suspicion, but that was all. And there's a humanoid shape on the cover, but I'm assuming it is the bot, which is not male or female, so it doesn't fit those categories for persons on the cover either.

But at least it was quick; I'm guessing everything else I read for the month will work for the mini. And if Exit Strategy or my other murderbot novellas that I read for the month, don't work at all for any part of the challenge, I won't be upset.

Camilla, I'm glad you were able to check off your yellow book last night and move onto something more fun!

88432 I was planning on doing chores most of the day today, but a long power outage necessitated me going outside to read...so I've finished Murderbot #3 and #4 novellas. Both are on the spreadsheet; I finished #4 after the mini-challenge started, but I don't think it fits any of the categories.

Absolutely! There's no rush and I don't want to add to your stress level. I like having the impetus to finish series too! I hope you (and everyone else) has a good weekend.

Keely - I'm reading The Rose Code this month - it's a buddy read for another challenge I'm participating in so I'll finish it for sure - and I think it would count for Yellow Skip (author's first name is Kate). If that helps you out, I can take that colored card off your hands. Although I'm hoping they'll change their minds at your work and give you the luxury of audiobooks while you toil away! It seems like it would be the smart decision on their part if it's going to help everyone's productivity. Or if your yellow skip is a book you're particularly looking forward to, I'm sure I or someone else can take a different card off your hands.

I've been looking at One for the Money and Kitchens of the Great Midwest...I think either could work for our Green 6 card (the second one is more of a mint green, but that would still count, correct?). I was able to get audiobooks of both of those so could add one to the spreadsheet for that card as well.

88432 I just finished Artificial Condition. It doesn't count for much...just a two card. But it is brown. So if it is helpful, maybe we could switch The Shadow of the Wind which I read for the brown overload category to be just a general book. In case that is allowed and useful, I put in all the categories Shadow of the Wind would fit on the spreadsheet (up in the colored section).

Next I will read Rogue Protocol; it is the third murderbot novella. I'm guessing it might not count for much either, but it is due back at the library tomorrow and should be quick.

Then I've got The Rose Code, Maybe in Another Lifeand Hunted on deck. The first two might work for covers with a woman on them. I haven't put them on the mini-spreadsheet yet, but could do that easily if no one else wants these slots.

88432 This seems like it could be tricky! (But fun!!). I have one book already checked out from the library that I think could work for the read a book which has given another team its name: Hunted. According to the spreadsheet, retelling are allowed for the Beauty and the Beast team. I'll plan on reading this, unless you don't think it works.

88432 I finished The Hating Game today and really enjoyed it. I am starting The Rose Code next and also Artificial Condition.

88432 I finished my orange covered book today (and brown covered book a few days ago). I think up next will be The Hating Game for one of the blue colored cards. I have started Seveneves as well and it is on the spreadsheet, but depending on what the mini-challenge is for the month, I may not finish it as it is a longer book.

88432 Ugh...I feel your frustration Keely! I would not do well if they took reading away from me at work. I hope the wireless headphones work most days for you.

88432 Sounds good - I'll move it on the spreadsheet to 3 Blue. Thank you

88432 I finished my first book for the month! Heartless.

I was also looking for more books that might fit our colored cards and found The Hating Game on the green list, so I signed up for Green 6 on the spreadsheet, as I was planning on reading it this month already. However, I might have classified that color as blue? I guess it is one of the in between colors and since it is on the green uno list, it is okay?

Thank you Kaley! I'll add the one book to the spreadsheet for brown cover.

88432 Two questions for our captains.

In a previous message I indicated that I could read Aurora's End for one of our green uno cards....however as I look at the book in person I am wondering if it is green enough? I don't think it was on the official green uno list.

Second, I've been wanting to read The Shadow of the Wind since January -- would it count as a brown cover? It may be more tan, but if it is brown I could claim that color on the spreadsheet.

I finished The Starless Sea yesterday; I've started Daughter of the Moon Goddess, but I'm going to plan on finishing it after April 1st so it will count for next month. Let me know if something changes and we need it for a fantasy painting this month and I should be able to get it done as I don't have very many commitments this week so it would be easy to do.
Mar 27, 2022 04:51PM

88432 Looking at my library books that I already have at home, I have:

No Land to Light On which would work for Orange cover;
Before the Devil Breaks You which works for Blue 1, 3, or 9 (and possibly skip too);
Aurora's End which works for Green 0, 4, 6, skip;
A Vow So Bold and Deadly which works for Red 7
Recursion which works for Yellow 3

Since No Land to Light On is the one I most want to read currently, I added that one to the spreadsheet. I'll wait to see what others choose before claiming any other color cards.

88432 This looks like fun! Unfortunately I'm reading my black-covered book for another challenge this month as well, so I can't hold off finishing it until April. But if Kaley needs to finish hers too and no one else has one in mind, I could try to get The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle as I've wanted to read that book for a while. I'm looking forward to work tonight now, where hopefully I'll have a little downtime to look for books to fit colored cards.
Mar 24, 2022 01:26PM

88432 Wow! I thought we'd struggle more to get all 45 books for the mini challenge - it is great that everything is covered already!

I started The Starless Sea for black cover yesterday and will definitely have it done by the end of the month.

I am still hoping to get to Daughter of the Moon Goddess, which would work for fantasy painting, but it's possible I won't finish it by the end of the month (it is due back at library April 5th, so it will be my next read!); maybe I could be possible back up for that category? If you want to do Q first Kaley (or anyone else) I will have a better sense by the end of the week if I will have time to get to my fantasy painting cover book by the end of the month. And if anyone else wants to claim the extra painting book that knows now they can definitely get it done in time, I'm happy to give up my tentative claim.

Happy reading everyone!

88432 I finished West with Giraffes today; I think the only thing it can work for is title starts with W. If all of those are already claimed and it doesn't end up working for the challenge, that is ok.

Next up is The Starless Sea. I have been looking forward to this book for a while as I really liked The Night Circus by the same author.
Mar 22, 2022 07:39PM

88432 I finished The Lincoln Highway tonight. It works for either white cover or W character. I didn't put it on the mini challenge spreadsheet as I'm not sure which category is better. Next up is to finish West with Giraffes and start The Starless Sea.
