OMG! I love this team! You guys are so awesome!
Those Fs, Vs, and Is can get very pesky - so glad we have books with those options! YAAAAY! :=D
LOL! This is funny! :DYou're good, Vicki! I am going to move around some books after work, so we will be fine.
Glad your current one has a F!
Thank you for the laughs though! :D
Vicki wrote: "I need to make an addition to post #216 for Winter's Path just in case you end up moving things around and need it: 4: Location F - Fairhope, Alabama"
This is perf!!
Was looking to move some books around to open up some Fs, you're a saver, Vicki! Thanks! :D
Quick ReminderAs we continue to finish our reads, please don't forget to add your finished books to your respective UNO shelves.
Vicki wrote: "Apoor, would you mind if, in the future, I put these:A: for author
C: for character
P: for place
T: for title
Or would that make it too ambiguous or create any problems for you?"
Works for me! I can always nag you with more questions if my lil' brain doesn't work! So, basically, go ahead at your risk! Mwahahaha! :P
Vicki wrote: "Apoor, I don't recognize you anymore! lol."LOL! What can I see, I am such a chameleon! :P
Put on a hat and bam! I'm a new person! :D
I knoooooww!! It so bizarre and cool. It will be 8PM for you guys, and 1AM for the folks on our team who are on the West Coast in The US (The two ends in our team). Our team is truly global and I love that. Its going to be crazy timezone-wise, but I am excited. :D I hope the orchestra rehearsals start off with a bang (pun intended! :P). So glad you guys are doing that.

WE ARE JUST HOURS AWAY FROM THE START OF THE CHALLENGE!!
Thank you all of being so excited.
This excitement is definitely communicable and I can wait for the clock to turn over.
Do take a quick peak at the initial posts incase you need a refresher as to what you would need to do before and after you finish a book.
Also, quick request, if something comes up and you have to attend to that in real life, please if possible drop in a line here or send me a message, so that you are accounted for.
But more importantly, ENJOY every bit of this fun challenge. I'm sure we will end up with a lot of happy moments and some new cool new books added to our TBRs.
LET'S DO THIS!! :D
Vicki wrote: "Is there a penalty for going over or under what we said we'd read? Also, where can we find the number of books we signed up for?"The penalty is that you have to treat the rest of the teammates with lots of chocolates or icecream! Haha!
No, there is no penalty as such. The idea is that the Mods have created teams based on that estimate that we provided, thereby creating all teams more or less equal.
All teams will roughly have to read 105 books for this month to complete all the hands, and the sign ups account for roughly 90ish - thereby some of us will end up reading a bit more to cover up the total.
The simple idea of this challenge is to just keep reading. Because thankfully most books can be used in some way shape or form.
The details of how much we signed up for can be found in "Members Info" tab on the planning spreadsheet.

These should be all our timezones for the start of the challenge, so keep an eye out for the one that applies to you.

Thanks Elisabeth and Tina for accurately answering all the questions. You guys got this, I am just going to go lay down at a beach. LOL! :PTo add to Vanessa's question, this is from something more related to the question, directly from the
----------------------
For location, is it just the city, state, country or are locations such as "Snowberry Manor" or maybe a specific lake or mountain name counted?-----------------------
It needs to be the main setting for the book. So if the book is set in "Snowberry Manor" then that is ok. Whereas if that is just the name of the house, but not the main setting (which may be the city of London, for example) then I wouldn't count it.
Another helpful resource is this "General Questions" tab where in the Mods' have answered some commonly asked questions. It is also linked in Message 6 at the top of this thread, incase anyone needs to quickly check up on something.

Laura wrote: "I've joined a few groups that do team challenges, but as this is my first one ever I'm just going to do this and see how it goes - it also seems really difficult to do more than one at the same time! But if I enjoy UNO (and I predict I will) I'll probably join some others in the future."LOVE your story of how you made your way here. Just makes me so happy when someone gets to explore GoodReads and find new exciting things to do (I LOVE GoodReads!)
I hope this challenge turns out to be fun for you and encourages you to join all the different groups and challenges across GR. They all have their charm and it is mad fun! :D
Tina ❣ wrote: "Yes it is quite a lot doing more than one challenge... yet I have still signed up to more than 5 and now I need to figure out which ones I've signed up to. I keep track of them by using a spreadsheet so I refer back to that."Oh boy! This reminds me of the 2018-2019 period when I was in all these challenges across GoodReads and I had a massive spreadsheet as well. It just became nuts after a point. I remember when I was in 8 team challenges at a time, and while I had loads of fun with the actual challenges, I was just reading for reading's sake and not really choosing my books carefully.
So, I've toned down massively. Although, I'll be going back to the SRC Spring challenge, which is a solo project but can get crazy competitive because it has points. So I hope to marry both these for now before I get sucked into the whirlwind of GoodReads challenges. Again!
Kathryn wrote: "My boyfriend actually grew up in a home where he wasn't educated or even taught to read. I wouldn't call his family Amish by any means, because they aren't, but it was a very controlled environment like that. He wasn't allowed to watch TV, had never left his home to see anywhere else, etc. But he got out of that and has slowly been catching up on ALL the things he missed out on. It's been fun introducing him to things that I myself have known my whole life.."I bet this brings you so much closer. I can imagine how exciting it must be for him to learn these new things and for you to relive those moments of your initial excitement again with him.
Wish that education and reading becomes more regular amongst folks from all over and all backgrounds - there is a lot that can be learned. So glad that he is not missing out on it. :)
Vicki wrote: "Wow! I have missed a lot on this thread. Let me start by saying that tomorrow (January 27) is my birthday and I will be 71, so I don't think we've played together since we were kids; however, let's say that you're my adopted son and you are my baby. LOLLOL! This is so cool. Yaaay! I can fit in so snuggly.
And all the March babies? OMG! No wonder everyone is so awesome. Haha! :P
So glad you survived the grandchildren onslaught. I'm sure it must have equal parts exhilarating and exciting. :D
So glad you got the vaccine and there have been no side-effects on the first one. Hope the second one is just as painless and you continue to remain healthy. CA is in a soup with the rising number of cases, so do be careful regardless.
Also, HAPPIIEEEEE BIRTHDAAAAY! :D
Speaking of which,I know some of you would want to read certain books for certain specific letters, and we will make that we adhere to that - but, our biggest goal is to complete hands and for that me and/or the co-caps will be moving books around to make them fit as snuggly as possible in open slots. (Thus, the push to mention as much detail as possible from any given book).
Also, in my experience with this challenge, letters like V, I, Z are trickier to find and complete books for as opposed to a T, E, S, so we will be moving books to those harder alphabets if we have the option. So specifically keep an eye out on those while you read.
Paris wrote: "Although I have a good collection of books that I own, I do get most of my new reads from the library, and then if I fall in love with a book, I buy myself my own copy!"OMG! That is so me! I for some reason, don't understand the idea of buying a book for the sake of buying it and then never reading it. I prefer reading a book first and then if it appeals to you, have it in your collection. That way, it just seems more cherished. But then having a massive bookshelf full of books is just a pleasant sight! Such conundrum, I tell you! :P
You can absolutely read non-fictions for the challenge, like in case of the book you mentioned, it can totally be used for I because of its title. So, if that is your preferred genre to read, feel free to do so. We might have limited options, but we can make it work.
P.S. HAPPPPYYY BIRTHDAY to the boify!! Paaaartyyyyyyy time! :D
Laura wrote: "That's so cool! I wish I had enough imagination to write. My boyfriend said last week that he doesn't understand why I don't write books, since I read so many I should know how to :D but I don't have a lot of ideas of my own."I love his analogy! Although, if all readers became authors then who would read? Haha!
But then I got sick yesterday (nothing terrible, just balance issues) so I'm home from work all week!
Goodness! I hope you feel better and get a nice rest this week that you are home. Funny how our body decides to make its presence felt sometimes. Take care, Laura!
Eragon is a great start to the challenge. Hope you enjoy it! :)
Alright, good folks,As we inch closer to the start of the challenge, please make sure
- All of you have editing access to the tracking spreadsheet and you can actually edit the "February" tab and input your books.
- Your respective UNO shelf is created and the cross-reference to it mentioned at the beginning of this thread is accurate.
- All of you have gone through the rules and the FAQs linked at the beginning of the thread as well.
Of course, as always, don't for a second hesitate in asking any question that you may have. We have wonderfully smart co-caps who know everything. :P
We are almost there.
Excited, yet?
Anyone knows what's the first book they'd start with?
Hello Kathryn, welcome to the madhouse! They are all well behaved and non-threatening (for now! :P) I must say I feel absolutely at home here.
Look around. Do read the first few messages to get acquainted with the basics and I will get you all set up with the spreadsheets and stuff in a bit.
Glad you're here. This will be fun! :D
