Guten morgen, Danah! Wie gehts? Bin froh, dich zu haben.
So glad to hear that the local book club is helping. I love book clubs too - it gives such a nice opportunity to read books from different genres, authors, parts of the world etc.
Are things online/over Zoom or do you guys actually get to meet and discuss the books in person?
I literally have Lilac Girls two feet away from me right now, staring at me to pick it up. This is such a major incentive. Thank you! :D
And don't hesitate to ask any questions you have.
Just a quick reminder to actually tag your books in your UNO shelf as "read" as and when you finish them. Sometimes that can get missed as we move on to the next book. So, just something to keep in mind.
Welcome! Hope you have fun! :D

Oh my gosh! This thread is like so damn exciting! And I think Apoorv is going to be an awesome captain.
I am totally new to this challenge. In fact it hasn't even been one year si..."
I'm so thrilled, I tell you, to have another fellow Indian on the same team. I'm almost always the only Indian (and the only male) in these group challenges - so its refreshing to see familiarity.
and I LOVE A Man Called Ove to bits!! That book! Uff!
I'm still collecting the pieces of my broken heart.
Super excited that you are overexcited. We are all excited. YAAAAAY!!

*Adds another +1 in front of the 67354 reasons why he should read Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine soon* :P
Hello, from across the globe! Just because our timezones may not match, don't feel obligated to not ask a question when one arises, Elisabeth. I'm quite literally a GoodReads addict, so I am on here constantly at all times. Haha!
…and a classical Clarinet player! I'm massively impressed. Love the Clarinet, and I can imagine how wonderful playing the instrument would be. Thank you for the world melodious and welcome! :D

This thread looks amazing, Apoorv!! We are so lucky to have you as captain. You've set the ..."
I have been trying to track our previous challenges together too.
But, I can't seem to come to an exact figure. I guess one day of captaining has already aged me. Oh well! :-O
Let's just say we've been playing together since we were kids. How about that?!
The point is we had fun... and hopefully this one is just as fun!
Also, is there a way you and your husband can adopt me?
Because gee golly, I can totally do with someone buying me a new bookshelf every time I go to Florida.
That is utterly adorable. Bless you guys!
Glad to have you here. WELCOME! :D
P.S. So stoked to know you liked Pachinko and A Woman is No Man. They just seared through me to reach the most delicate part of my heart, to just stay there. I have been meaning to get on with The Nightingale for a bit now, I guess we have a Reserve card already decided. Yaay! :D

So, I am Apoorv - supposedly the captain! *searches for his Cap cap* :P
I have been doing these UNO challenges for a while (except the last one, I believe!) .
I think I have played on a team with Vicki before, but this is a brand new team for the most part for me, and I'm mighty excited to make some new friends and learn about all the books you guys are reading.
I live in Boston, Massachusetts in The United States, and I see we are covering as many as FOUR continents amongst us - that makes me extremely giddy with joy! :D But, let's also make sure that we work out the time zones amongst us, especially with completion of books towards the end of the month, so that we don't miss anything.
I try and read almost everything (except maybe religious fiction/nonfiction), so its always an exciting aspect of this challenge for me to see all the plethora of books my teammates read.
So, as an icebreaker, how about, if you don't mind, each of you share your top 5 books that you read in 2020?!
Mine would be:
1. Pachinko | Min Jin Lee
2. This Is How It Always Is | Laurie Frankel
3. My Dark Vanessa | Kate Elizabeth Russell
4. When All Is Said | Anne Griffin
5. A Woman Is No Man | Etaf Rum
Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have.
I promise I'll answer all the easy ones, and make sure our wonderful co-captains, Tina and Jill, answer the difficult ones! :P
Super excited to start this one. YAAAY! :D

BUT I AM HAVING SOOOOOOOO MUCH FUN! :=(
So, here are our APRIL hands.

FEBRUARY MINI CHALLENGE
Back to the 80s!
We have given each team a popular book from the 1980s.
As a team, you need to try and read as many books that you can connect with your 1980s book as possible. The ways the books "connect" is completely open to interpretation.
Creativity is the key to the challenge, not rules.
For example; Team XYZ is assigned The Handmaid's Tale.
They read books by Canadian authors, sci-fi MPG, books with something red on the cover, dystopian books, books where a young female is in an arranged relationship with an older male, a book where two characters do something in secret etc.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?
YAAY! Well done, ET-ians!
Now we make sure that we count that book.
Every book is precious and we do not want to miss tracking it.
So, three things:
1. Stop by here and make a quick post about the completed book with as much information you can provide. Here is an example how:
--------------------------------------------
Completion Post
Book: This Is Your Life, Harriet Chance! |
Author: Jonathan Evison
Pages: 296
Date: 01-Feb-2021
UNO Cards it fits:
0: StandaloneCover Color : Blue (73.3%)
1: Character O - Osier, Terrance
2: Title T
3: Character H - Harriet Chance
4: Character F - Fitsimmons, Charlie
6: Character S - Skip
8: Author E
9: Character N - Nathan, Harriet
Skip: Character K - Kurt Pikins

-------------------------------------------
2. Hop over to your profile and make sure you have logged in that book in your respective UNO folder as "read".
This is important because at the end of the month, only books logged into the respective shelves can be counted. And these mods are pesky (shhh!), they like to sneak, I tell you! Oh, you'll see! :P
------------------------------------------
3. Take a minute to go to our planning/tracking spreadsheet and put in the relevant information of your next read.I mean, we can't stop at 1, or 2, or errm 6!

WHAT DO I DO?!
I know! I know! Your excitement is palpable. I totally get it! :D
So, let's get started, shall we?
Couple of things:
1. You can read absolutely ANYTHING you want! The only request is you track every little thing that the book offers you! Names, locations - the works! The best way, of course, is ET Planning/Tracking Spreadsheet. You can start filling information as you come across it in the "February" (and later "March", and "April" folders). The reason for having all that information is that we can then move things around to complete our hands without waiting on someone to finish a certain book.
2. Color Cards: This is a fun one! We can have people claim certain color cards if they want, but irrespective of that, I would request you to note any cover color related information from your book that would fit the bill.Always better to have multiple books that may fit multiple options. Again, you don't have to read for a particular color, but you can if you so choose.

Well, you'll be tracking yourself! How about that?!
(and then me and two other co-caps will be following you, so... you know, win-win! :P)
Team SpreadsheetYou don't have to worry about this one!
I got this (hopefully... maybe... ummm... co-caaaaps!!)
ET Planning/Tracking SpreadsheetNow, THIS is your playground! Bookmark this baby because you will be needing this one a lot over the next three months!

Rules - UNO 2021
General Questions
➦ Only books STARTED after the challenge begins can count.
The challenge starts on Monday 1 Feb, 2021 at 9pm UTC
➦ Books must be more than 100 pages in length.
If it is a Children's book or a graphic novel, we need to verify it is more than 25,000 words on arbookfind.com
➦ Your finished books need to be on your Uno shelf
AND marked as "read" for them to count.
➦ Please make notes of how your book may count.
The more options we have the better!
(Letters used in UNO are Z, O, T, H, F, I, V, E, S, N, K, P and of course if another team member has read the book before. Please friend our team members!)
➦ For coloured cards, the cover needs to be 50% or more of the colour.
You can ask us in this thread for our opinion, or use this colour tool to get an idea. If in doubt, ask me or a co-captain as we can check it and/or take to the captains group for another opinion.
➦ This is a social challenge, not a competitive one.
We'd love to get points, but the main aim of the game is to have fun, read lots and get to know each other :)

Thank you, though, for going through them earlier and coming up with what works were - made it so much easier! :)
We are almost there! Yaay!

So, if any of you have any books that fit in these, shout out! :)

I hate that stupid TinEye thingy! I mean, how is a blatantly vibrant yellow cover brown in color? *facepalm*

Also, I am reading the last Yellow book and have another Blue book after that. It's time to hunt for all them blue books now! We have sooooooooo many of them coming up. Geez! :P
