Thank you everyone for another great year of Uno and of course to the mods who made it all possible as well as fun!

Great work team! We were very lucky with our last round of cards which I think gave us the point possibility to take the lead, but of course we wouldn't have got all those points without all of your hard reading!!

🚀 Build Your Own Spaceship
Our ship may be a bit of a fixer upper buy life's too short to worry about it's imperfections. It may not be as fancy as Northanger Abbey, but it will be forever mine. Hopefully. We'll cross that hill when we come to it. Anyway. We will journey to Union Station before aiding those aliens in what is being call "The Poppy War". It's a real family affair apparently, but they will have to deal with the dragon that is our spaceship's power!
🧑🚀 Select Your Crew
What a crew we have gathered, it's almost comical. We have the usual suspects of university graduates including a lady with a Math PhD and a MIT mentor. Bee and Levi help ensure our suits are intact. We have a police officer and a investigative reporter, although we're not quite sure what crimes they expect to investigate on a spacship. There is Guy the famous chef who helps make meals more interesting given the limited supply. Melvian is our healer which is necessary incase of any injuries or sickness. Some of the crew were from a travelling circus which helps keeps us entertained if nothing else. And then there is Alice. We don't really know much about Alice.
🌌 Off You Go
I have a confession. Promise you won't tell? We broke a mirror. And by we I mean one of our crew that attempted to sing like a well know pop singer on Earth, but somehow cracked the mirror. She said she wanted to "feel like the woman in me". I'm not sure what that means but it's been a real hell house here. Don't worry. We mended the mirror, but I fear the damage is done. Apparently the superstition that you get 7 years bad luck is real. James says his lucky cleat broke. He's had it since he was 10 years old or something and has given him so much luck in life including every summer's big football match. I can't talk about that anymore. Let's focus on the mission. As we climb the invisible hill in space to our destination, we have learnt a bit more about the task at hand. This whole war started over some soulmate equation going wrong. When we think soulmate's we think it is destiny to bring two people together and it's supposed to be all cute and lovely. But not where we are going. Declaring a soulmate is basically declaring war. I don't get it either, but what it that view changes everything?
🌠 End of the Universe
Instead of being called "The Poppy War" that should have been called "World War Z" as in the final war. I still don't really understand the details, but there was something about the Witch King caught the Duke with a priest and didn't want his Navy SEAL's E-mail order bride. I fear some things were lost in translation, but that was my understanding of what happened. The spirit bared it's teeth as there was a storm of swords on the battlefield. We watched safely from our spaceship. They didn't actually want us to get involved, just to witness their conviction. This whole mission has been so confusing. Now we will journey back to Earth and I for one cannot wait for a nice sweet lamb dinner.

Thank you all for another fun Uno! I'll post again when the final results are in. Otherwise I hope to see you all in future challenges. I will be participating in Tower Teams soon over on the NBRC group so maybe I'll see some of you over there.
Gem - I hope the last part of your pregnancy goes well and you have a happy and healthy baby. I know you've mostly allowed me to crack on with captain stuff which I am grateful for as it has given me the confidence to consider taking on a full captain role in future challenges. Thank you for being supportive and I will be more than happy to be captain (co or otherwise) with you in the future if/when you are able to come back to challenges.

A 2, 6 and Skip is what we are waiting for, but I could shuffle some stuff around if needed. I won't move anything until the challenge has officially ended or Keri says she is unable to finish some. At the very least can you make sure they are on your Uno shelf, but it would be helpful if you could let me know of any here or add them to the spreadsheet along with what they work for. Captains have 24 hours to update spreadsheets after the challenge has ended. It will be nice to have backup books just in case.
Also, I believe we are currently sitting in 1st place!

It looks like it's just myself and Keri with books remaining for the main card. Kayt also has one on the Mini.

Keri - I noticed you still have 3 unfinished books. I'm just checking in to see if you will finish them all in time. Please let us know ASAP if not so we can try and find replacement. Thanks!

As I said before, I will do it if needed, but I can't guarantee they will be any good as I am not all that creative when it comes to writing. I probably won't have time to sit down and really think about it until very near the end of the challenge. So if someone would like to at least make a start, I would be very grateful!
*edit* I've had a little go of the crew one as I was messing about with the spreadsheet. If anyone thinks of any way to improve it then please feel free to do so. Now back to my reading.

I'm more than halfway through my two of my remaining books. I will do a bit more reading before bed, but even if I don't finish either of them tonight, I am confident I will finish them before the end of the challenge. .

I guess it could be surreal as it isn't a situation one hopes to find themselves in. And there is a lot of speculation as to what is happening. Thinking about it more now, I think we could use it for that!

-Life Support System
Read a book about survival in extreme conditions.
-Cosmic Weirdness
Read a book with surreal, mind-bending, or speculative elements that challenge your view of reality.

We now have just 10 cards left unclaimed and 5 mini tasks unclaimed. Our normal cards looks like they are all 1's apart from a Skip and two Wild's.

I've just done an update to the spreadsheet and as we are nearing the last few days, I thought I'd do another little update.
All colour cards are now claimed. Jane and Tina have one each to finish and I have two. I'll work on my green once I've posted this and I should be done with it in an hour or so.
We've got 18 spots left open. Most of the ones left seem to be 1's as well as a couple of 5's and Skip's.
We still have 7 mini tasks left unclaimed.

I reserved at couple of books on Libby that could work for a 1 Yellow but they all said at least a two week wait. If any come through earlier I could also cover the last 1 Yellow.

We are nearing the end of this year's Uno :(
All colour cards have been claimed apart from our two 1 Yellows. I've tried to have a look, but have not been very successful so far. I'll look again soon, however if anyone has any suggestions of books that would work please let us know.
It looks like we have 27 empty spaces in total for the main cards. If you want to read a book that doesn't have an empty space available, let us know and put it at the bottom of the spreadsheet and we will try and shuffle things to fit it in.
Mini-wise we still have 8 tasks left unclaimed. I know that some of the tasks can't be filled until books are finished or near the end especially if you haven't read it before. Just remember to keep the mini tasks in mind.
We are currently sitting in 6th place, but that can all change as not every team updates their sheets regularly.

I'm just letting you all know that I will be flying to Norway on Wednesday where I will be for the rest of this challenge. I will have a lot of waiting around to do as I'll be getting a total of 3 flights to get to where my fiance lives. The longest gap is 8 hours in Oslo so I'm hoping to be able to get quite a bit of reading done in that time. The flights themselves are pretty short and I usually just try to have a nap on them.
I will be able to check this thread during the day, but not update the spreadsheet. After Wednesday, I will have plenty of time to read while my fiance is at work and I'll probably end up reading more than I have been lately! I have access to a PC in Norway so I will be able to do updates to the spreadsheet regularly like normal too.
