I'm continuing with my Agatha Christie reads (it seems mystery is the only genre I could stomach these days), which of course are on the wishlist shelves. :) Murder in Mesopotamia - 3.5 stars (mostly because of the narrator...the mystery itself was very good!)
Third Girl - 4 stars - #38 in the series and still so good!! This story is set in the 60s (40+ years after her first book) and it's interesting to see how the mores in Britain have changed and how Dame Christie makes that central to the story. As always the addition of Mrs. Oliver (Poirot's writer friend) is a source of a lot of humor (specially when Dame Christie uses to express her frustration with her own character or reader's expectations.) I'm so sad there are just a few books left in the series!!
Lately I only feel like reading mysteries so I've continued with my re-read of two of Dame Christie's most famous detectives: Miss Marple & Hercule Poirot.I read
- 4 stars
- 5 starsI can't believe this woman would write so many good mysteries. Both are simply outstanding with incredible denouement. I don't know how she did it!!
Marina wrote: "I've already read a lot of the books on the shelf, but I'm considering The Death of Ivan Ilych, Metamorphoses, The Red and the Black (quite a bit too long, though), Leaves of Grass... and a few others, too."The Death of Ivan Ilych is wonderful! And short too!
CluckingBell wrote: "Probably most things I might read in January are on that shelf, but I'll formally commit to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, since it's on the first page of shelf results and I..."Is this your first time reading/listening? The narration by Jim Dale is superb!
LOL, I know! But the series is not too long so I'll be able to say that I finished a series! (Because it's likely that I'll start book 4 after book 3...hahahaha!)
Finished my first book!Good news, the book had been on my TBR since 2010! Yay!
Bad news, it was the second book in a series and now that I've taken to reading series back to back, I've started the next book in the series which WASN'T on my TBR.
Happy New Year!I read
and gave it 3.5 stars. This book has been on my TBR since 2010 so I'm super happy that it's out! Definitely not for everybody - sort of an old school romance but I enjoyed it! Crazy characters but very sexy.
I also have one left from round 1: A book with something upside down!I'm looking through the Audible Romance package to see if I find a book that fits so I can read it before the end of the year...
Mell wrote: "well, that was harder than it seemed!"LOL, agree! I also had to redo a lot of random numbers, specially the vowels I, O, U.
But I really liked the combination of books that it turned out - lots of books in there that have been languishing in my TBR for years. Some combinations which I thought I would have lots of books available like T7, I only ended up having one book, while others which I thought would be more rare like W2, ended up having tons!
I'm going with my 'To Read' Shelf (hate the changed it to 'want to read...that means something completely different) which has 409 books. That's 13 books. 2/13

The one I'm having problem is 'E'...I have several books that fit, it's just that I haven't had the chance to pick them up!
The shelving here is weirder than most. I don't consider any of Jane Austen's books satire but they are all in this shelf!ETA:
is probably a satire but I don't consider P&P to be one...
CluckingBell wrote: "I'm thinking A Modest Proposal, since it's so often alluded to in Britcoms and will also fit in to an early Bookopoly move. I've added a lot of books from that shelf to Mount TBR, th..."This is great!
