8565 I've DNFed Devil in Spring (The Ravenels, #3) by Lisa Kleypas after listening about 3/4 of the book. I just can't take the heroine. I don't know how this book made it to the finals in the GR choice awards for romance...

This is why I haven't read this book because of the love triangle...although unlike most YA, this one makes sense to me.

Anyhow, this is on my TBR on the list of series to finish soon. :)

That's why I have no interest whatsoever in reading this book. I really think that Harper Lee didn't intend to publish it when she had all her marbles exactly because of what you explained above. This is no "sequel" to TKAM - it was just a different story with the same character names! From what I've heard, Atticus is a completely different person and this isn't how it works IRL - good people don't devolve as they get older, unless there's some mental illness involved.

8565 I read Beard Science (Winston Brothers, #3) by Penny Reid , which I rated 4.5 stars. The absolute best of the series! Cletus is one of the most unique heroes in romance - he's so freaking hilarious!

I'm really looking for the next in the series...when it comes out in audio!

Go away, you temptress!! :p

LOL, maybe next year? For the rest of 2017 I'll try to read all those yearly challenges I haven't finished yet.

8565 I mostly listen to audiobooks already and I'm still leery of listening to those!

8565 I've been meaning to start the Game of Throne series but the books are soo long! One of these days...

8565 Bea wrote: "I may have to pass this month unless I luck out in my reading. Most of my series are past book #2 (which it seems the list concentrates on) and I am not really wanting to start a new series at this time."

The list has a lot of books past #2 in the series (I found a #9) but you have to look at it a different way, specially since GR cut all the shelves at 1250 books/25 pages even if the shelf itself has more than that...

ETA: From your TBR, I found two books shelved by 1 person as 'sequels' - one is #4 and the other is #8

Oh yeah...I remember that dead body and I read the book as soon it came out. :p

8565 Great choice! Lots of options for me:
Beard Science (Winston Brothers, #3) by Penny Reid The Rose and the Thorn (The Riyria Chronicles, #2) by Michael J. Sullivan Hallowed (Unearthly, #2) by Cynthia Hand Fire Touched (Mercy Thompson, #9) by Patricia Briggs Hidden (Alex Verus #5) by Benedict Jacka Devil in Spring (The Ravenels, #3) by Lisa Kleypas Eidolon (Wraith Kings, #2) by Grace Draven Tabula Rasa (Gaius Petreius Ruso, #6) by Ruth Downie

I'll probably read more than one as I'd like to start finishing series and working on all the audios on my TBR...some of these fit both. :)

8565 Marina wrote: "D.G., have you seen the movie? I loved it, as I do all movies by Miyazaki. I haven't read the book, though. I'd like to read it someday, just to see where Miyazaki took his idea from."

Nope, haven't seen the movie! Maybe that's why people like it so much. I get the idea that people who really liked the book already saw the movie - I was talking to somebody who only read the book and like me, was baffled as to why it's so popular!

8565 Susan wrote: "The Thirteenth Tale is really about reading and loving books.

Agree. I shelved that book as a mystery. Yes, there's a Gothic feel to it, but more like Jane Eyre than any real ghost story.

8565 Not sure why someone put Howl's Moving Castle (Howl's Moving Castle, #1) by Diana Wynne Jones in the diversity shelf. Maybe because there's an "elderly" character? Which wouldn't make sense because the person really isn't (see why below) and the portrayal was more of a caricature than the real thing.

This is the story of Sophie, a young woman who's transformed by an evil witch into an old lady. Not knowing what to do, Sophie leaves her home and bullies Howl - a supposed evil warlock - to let her live in his moving castle while she tries to find a way to regain her youth back.

I found the whole book confusing. I didn't understand why she would behave like a 90-year old - just because she looked like an old woman didn't mean that she was. Why was she afraid of Howl when she first met him? Why was he so obsessed with women falling in love with him?

Maybe this was supposed to be funny? If so, I didn't get it.

I was so thinking of The Thirteenth Tale for this!!

8565 When I was 8 or 9, my sister and I watched The Turn of the Screw. We were scared shitless, hugging each other in the couch. I don't remember the plot at all but I remember that so vividly!

I will probably read The Kingdom (The Graveyard Queen) by Amanda Stevens , which is a series where the heroine sees ghosts. I read the first book for the "Southern" shelf a few months back and really liked it!

8565 Susan wrote: "I had heard of the children's book Ada's Violin in another context, so when I spotted it on this shelf, I picked it up. I don't really know why someone would've shelved it here. "

Susan - I get the idea that people shelve books in this shelf not because the book is diverse in itself but because it's about people of color/other cultures. So with that in mind, I see why a book set in Paraguay would count as "diversity".

8565 Elvenn wrote: "Well, so far the link shared by D.G. last month (in this post) to check whether a book is in a certain shelf or not has proved very useful!"

Glad you're finding the link useful, Elvenn.

Yeah, that bug with the 25+ page of shelves has been happening for years.

8565 If you haven't read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, please do so now. It's AMAZING!!!

I'll have these (mostly from the first page:)
The Wrath and the Dawn (The Wrath and the Dawn, #1) by Renee Ahdieh Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes, #1) by Sabaa Tahir Wolf by Wolf (Wolf by Wolf, #1) by Ryan Graudin

I'll read one of those...

8565 I read two books on the abandoned shelf:

Truth or Beard (Winston Brothers, #1) by Penny Reid - rated 3 stars
Totally see why this book was abandoned. It really doesn't know what it wants to be. The best part is the family dynamics - Cletus specially is hilarious - but the relationship was too rushed (they fell in love so fast) and the "mystery" was ridiculous. If you're not going to do a good job with the mystery, don't even bother. Those things don't get resolved so easily, not even in real life.

Nice Dragons Finish Last (Heartstrikers, #1) by Rachel Aaron - rated 4 stars.
Even though I really liked it, I get why it was abandoned. The MC is pretty much the anti-UF MC, he's a nice guy who wants people to stop being ruthless. But I thought the book was a breath of fresh air and Julius is so adorable, always trying to do the best for everybody. Totally looking forward to continuing the series!
