thought I'd let y'all know of a chance to learn a bit about RBE's latest themed anthology release DEATH'S STING, some bit more about its illustrious editor, and have a chance at winning a free e-copy... visit GW Thomas' book blitz at

wow, just watched season 2 a few weeks back. I really enjoyed season 2, except for the la-la land everyone loves everyone ending.

LOL, so I go to do my page update and discovered that I read EOV. Now I've read that Conan story several times so I would have caught on by the time I got to the Leiber tale, but I am now immediately jumping to EOV2.

finally starting my anthology read: KEW's ECHOES OF VALOR. That first chapter of Howard's "The Black Stranger" still rocks!

Richard, I really enjoyed Amra and her series.

LOL, tell me about it!
Seriously, open to any all feedback on the newsletter as a newbie. Be advised I'm currently using the free newsletter marketing feature in my free Wix site so there are things I cannot do/add.

Done! thank you.

First newsletter with a book promotion has been sent! Thanks for doing this Jon - hope it's a positive experience.

Jon, Rogue Blades is always looking for exposure, and we just started a newsletter. There's not too many subscribers yet, but if you're interested in swapping, we're in!

Dude! You've been so awesome all these years! Always love your banners. I/We should figure out a way to get you on a RB cover.

Casca is a great character and fun reads, though they do get repetitive. I've read 6 or 7, have another 8 or 9 in the TBR.

Though tradition is also aka as peer pressure from the dead.

I'm trying to write something that lies between Hemingway's, `The Old Man and the Sea, and McMurtry's `Lonesome Dove, with a little bit of Carter's, `the Outlaw Josey Wales thrown in for good measure."Sounds rather delightful, look forward to what you come out with.

Thank you sir!
This will do just fine :)

A quick update:
Rogue Blades (RB) is now two entities:

It was a real good panel (I think Jason M Waltz was on it..."Hey know, I appreciate a good name-drop, but don't be using my name in vain, S.E.! :)
Seriously, I know I am considered to fall more on the strict side of things regarding S&S, but I do not fall into the 'purist' group, at least I don't think so.
To me, S&S is an attitude and a common set of motivations. Conan could very well be the epitome of those motivations and thus the character all should be compared to, but they all don't have to _be_ him or _be_ Howard. If the motivations and attitude are there, S&S is there. So I believe S&S exists in modern times as well, though typically as an assumed/performed role, like the 80's WWE wrestlers. Call me strict, but I'm gonna deny the purist label. :)
And yes, the SSOC/Roy Thomas era is the best pastiche in my view, understanding that such did imbue Conan with a bit more (though not too drastically different) heroic-like traits.

An army of George Pattons would indeed be a disaster, though an army led by a George Patton would be a smashing success indeed! Just as an army of Conans or Kanes or Tarzans would be a mega-fail. And therein lies the answer to this question. Consider a US football game with 22 Bo Jacksons on the field -- seems like a dream game to catch, but it quickly would cease to be: (A) Us mere mortals will be shortly reminded of our mere mortality and lose interest, (B) the specialness of a, the, Bo Jackson will swiftly be lost in a field of doppelgangers...and we spectators will lose interest, and (C) the unsustainability of it will suddenly become as apparent as the undelivered-upon dynasty dream the Shaq-&-Kobe Lakers temporarily gifted us... and we'll lose interest because we just won't care.
It is a fun idea to consider, though I'm not certain it would be worthy the pursuit. Also, there are series with large-scale quantities of magic-weilding 'soldiers' serving in armies, from Myke Cole to Steven Erikson.
