770270 Sax wrote a series of hugely popular novels about Fu, from 1913 to 1959! Of course self serving villains are very common, so one on an anti-communist crusade is at least different. But now, it is the fashion for all heroes to be flawed, and for all villains to have redeeming features.

770270 "Sax Rohmer gradually transformed Fu Manchu from an entirely self-serving villain into a dedicated anti-communist"
(Encyclopaedia Britannica)

In the early days
The evil Fu
Knew exactly
What to do:
To conquer the western devils
And extend his sway
Right around the globe
From East to West
And never rest.

But there is great joy in heaven
When a sinner repents.
And it came to pass
That Fu saw the error of his ways,
His love of riches
And power unparalleled.

So he turned
To immerse himself
In philosophy,
Reading the worthy works
Of the great sages:
Aristotle and Plato,
Marx and Lenin,
Adam Smith and Keynes.
He studied them all.

And finally,
He saw the light,
And embraced capitalism,
The open market,
And the lands of the free.

770270 Ah! So his real surname is O'Biden ..... But appreciation of poetry, telling jokes, political acumen: is there no end to Joe's talents?

770270 No problem. Dostoevsky wrote "Notes from underground" , but that was before the Saint Petersburg metro existed. Now poets ride the underground trains, typing their odes into their laptops, and then publishing them on the internet.
