749599 Ch 13-26+interlude
(view spoiler)

I may be in a slump, I'm not entirely sure πŸ˜… but I'm not that engrossed in this story.

Hope you feel better!

749599 I got Explorer, and I have to say it's perfect, just what I need.

The Explorer
βœ” 1. Read an audiobook
βœ” 2. Read a book with a map
βœ” 3. Read a book featuring a road trip
βœ”4. Read a book set in a country that is not your own
βœ” 5. Read a book written by Aiden Thomas, Emery Lee, Becky Chambers or Nghi Vo

Sunreach (Skyward #2.1) by Brandon Sanderson Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte The Road Trip by Beth O'Leary The Girl in Red by Christina Henry The Empress of Salt and Fortune (The Singing Hills Cycle, #1) by Nghi Vo
749599 Ch 7-12 (view spoiler)
749599 @Jen, I agree the first couple of chapters flew by so fast, but they were also short.. Let's hope the rest is the same, because it pulls you even more to finish the book.

Just random... I did not know Spensa had a last name, I mean I guess everyone has one, but I didn't know it was Nightshade. If it was mentioned in Skyward I had forgotten it.

Ch. 3 (view spoiler)

4-6 (view spoiler)
749599 I don't know how Heather is progressing. However, I plan *fingers crossed* to finish chapter 12 or get close to it.
749599 How goes the reading?

I stated it the day before yesterday, but only read the prologue and the first chapter

(view spoiler)

Now I'm going to continue reading, I don't know how much I'll read but I'll comment.
749599 Am I reading too much into Arturo and Alanik?

Also, finished it.
749599 Jack and the Beanstalk
How did you guys feel about this story?
It annoyed me so much, well Jack did. Comparing his mother with the giantess, because she wanted help from him around the house, and for him to work so that they have something to eat.

Hansel and Gretel
So far this is my favorite retelling.
749599 I'm pretty sure I'll start it tonight. And even if I don't start it, the first 6 chapters for me are 50 pages + I have the audio so I should be able to catch up fast.
749599 Finished it.

I suspected D.J. too πŸ˜‚ and was "is this where he betrays them?" on several occasions.

The narration was a bit bland, which made it a tad less enjoyable. But I was intrigued with the alien/parasite. I can see that it was too much since we already had a pandemic.. and now that I finished I see that none of it was nicely tied at the end and it annoys me.

On one hand it can be a "to be seen" kind of scenario, but still it was lacking things. Okay, we have a government made creature and we have the military that can't give classified information to the public but we didn't get much on it. What about the militia? They had some plan, they were doing something, but we didn't find anything more about it. I just feel like the book should've been a bit longer, or if it had been written with a bit more information, a bit more developed from the beginning.
749599 I sat down, and I'm going to finish the book. Since everyone is done I can comment without the spoiler tag.

Firstly, I want to say I love Red's brain. Knowing random shit is so cool, and I wish I had a vast interest in things and good memory to actually remember said things.

Second, I love how it's presenting at least a part of today's situation.
749599 I'm going to be a bit behind schedule, since I haven't finished ReDawn, and don't know if there's something that is important for Cytonics. But *fingers crossed* maybe tomorrow.
749599 I love that :D and I love that I caught it
749599 I started ReDawn πŸ˜‚

Awwww, a slug learned Jorgen's name.

Is this referencing to Lord of the rings? πŸ˜ƒπŸ€£

One of your ancient writers even preserved bits of our language, so that when we began to travel across the universe, some of your people could speak to mine.” I’d never read the book, though now I wished I had. There were still a few copies on ReDawn. Something about a ring.

I finished chapter 14. I agree, it's interesting to read it from Alanik's perspective and to see a bit of her world and culture.
749599 @bopeep I like the accent being on friendship, but also the writing doesn't work for me so I keep away, of course there are some exceptions but *shrugs*

Snow White. Wooho, I remembered something.. from somewhere. However, I did not know about the bodice. If you keep reading the originals after these stories and there some interesting things feel free to tell us, I would like to know. I don't know if I'll ever pick the original tales but this may give me a tad more interest in it.
749599 πŸ˜… I haven't even started it. Today I wasn't feeling much like reading, only read the Group Read book because it's short stories. I don't know how I stand with time tomorrow because it's a busy day, but hopefully I'll read it before Cytonic..
749599 @Bopeep Thank you for nominating this, I don't think I would've picked it up otherwise. Beauty and the beast is not a story I like, and it's in the title, but also seeing it's under middle grade category would've pushed me even further away.

I like the writing a lot, it's simple but at the same time it's not ? I don't know how to explain it, it just doesn't feel like other middle grade things I've read.

Red Riding Hood Liked that it was a "every year" sacrifice of beautiful girls, and that in the end Red made a sanctuary for girls the villagers were gladly sacrificing even though they didn't know what would happen if they refused.

Snow white This one definitely is with a twist to the original, although every story here is, and I like that there's a black Snow White. Does anyone know if the poison comb was part of like the original story? It feels kinda familiar, but at the same time I'm not sure I've heard it.

Sleeping beauty A vampiric prince for a male sleeping beauty? I don't know.. I'm kinda confused by the blood thing going on, but all for the male beauty.

Rapunzel From all riches freedom is the most valuable. I also like how she was "to be your wife? yeah, no thanks" πŸ˜‚
I like how in the end she only wanted to dance in the rain. Parental love can be too tight, while only wanting to do the best it can "cripple" the child for some useful in life skills.

To those that finished the book, what was your favorite story?
