I had to look up what dog that is because my knowledge of dog breeds is non existent. And awww, they are cute.
Yeah, no problem :D

I know you are reading it but I'm also listening to the audiobook and I have to comment how I like it. I don't know when it was recorded but the narration reminds me of old movies, and that's very nice.
Besides Mrs. Von Hopper who is .. wow.. I pity the poor soul that has to deal with her on the daily... I don't have any comments.

The fights and the drama that obviously had to happen was one of those that I felt okay with. Yeah, it was a bit too much drama, but it was a valid reason for fighting and I like that because some romance books have a cringy and stupid reason for the characters to break up or whatever.
I thought he'll hire her in the end in his Tourist Trap, but I'm glad she got her own thing. Also, I was shocked every time by the weather because in my head it's all snow.
😂 I understand that. I have moments when I feel down and pick up a romance to make me feel better, and it does for a bit, before it makes it worse because people get together and are all happy.
I'm in for the second book. I'll get my hands on it so when you want to read it just comment in the nominations thread.

I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't meet her face to face because she's apparently this evil ruler that wants her dead.. for some reason.
I don't know if I should feel bad that I didn't figure out what's in that garden or not. Now that I read the book it's obvious, but at the time I was just meh, don't care and I just pushed through it.
@Bopeep You are maybe criticizing a lot but your rating is the highest 😂

Yes, to the Jonyah killing. I was impressed with the descriptive part of her killing him. Because in other books they make it so fast and here it could be felt.

So I have a question about familiars. It's said that if someone loses their familiar they lose their magic too, but also it was mentioned that they can get a new familiar so... I understand that Seango is her bff and obviously she doesn't want to lose her because of that but the way it was said at the end of one of the chapters makes it sound that if Seango dies Sirscha's magic goes bye-bye. What is true?
Chapter 22 Oh, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that she isn't the type of ...whatever she is but the bad kind, however I am and it's the first time I was surprised by the book.
Chapter 25 Since she's gonna keep her secret of NOT being a soulguide I guess we know what book 2 will be about.. not that I'll read it but okay.
Well what a surprise that she screwed things more by killing Spider dude (I can not remember his name even though I just finished the book and saw his name).
If nothing else I had good buddies to read this with.

I saw this in a review and I don't know if that is the reason or I too don't like it much but... Graham calling Zoey darling and Zoey Bear and what ever.. he knows her for what a few days and keeps calling her like that. I mean probably wouldn't mind it if he was with Lana like that too because they've known each other for a while.
I know I was super excited and enjoying it on the first day we read it, but now my enthusiasm has dropped a bit.. BUT I'm still liking it and find Graham and Zoey adorable.
I just finished chapter 11, and hopefully I'll read today's chapters later today.

Oh, that's cool. I don't think we have that here... or at least not in my high school library 😂
Jan 11, 2021 05:04PM

Lana is.. an interesting character. But yeah, I loved that she went into a stalker mode 😂 Because otherwise she would've been a horrible friend; she convinced her to come to Alaska and convinced her to have that drink even though she knew Zoey is a lightweight.
I honestly don't know how I would've reacted to her situation. But I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt the whole police station scene too much. It felt like the author wanted to make it funny, but it was just a step or two too far.
(I'm glad everything is alright 😃 What are you teaching?)
*It appears I had known about book 1 since May 2020 because I put it on my future reads shelf... but I was pretty convinced I saw the second book first in one of GRs list they promote. Either way, I'm glad this book got into my hands..well in this case in my ears but.. same thing 😃

That's nice, that way you have something fun for next year. I on the other hand don't think I can wait that long 😂
Jan 11, 2021 10:53AM

I hope he makes more appearances 😂
Have you read the second book too?
Jan 11, 2021 10:36AM

I didn't BR Shadow and Bone, I read that when I started using GR more actively, and before I was comfortable talking/BRing with people.
Oh, yes, it's pretty. I liked the one with all of them

and this one in the middle, of Sirscha and Saengo

The forest reminds me of one other book, but gosh I can't remember what book it was.. maybe it was Uprooted by Naomi Novik 🤔 I'm not fully sure, but I think that it's that book, and it too had a thing with a crazy forest 😅

* I'm currently on chapter 3 and I'm loooooving this. I'm surprised by the "twist", usually the new girl gets super interested in the guy that lives in whatever town she visits, and he's a total jerk.. But Graham is cool, he doesn't like tourists much but he likes Zoey from the beginning. That's refreshing and I love it.
* Still chapter 3... wtf with Lana? “I haven’t drugged anyone in months.” What? No. Wtf, that's wrong and she's so chill about it.
* 😂😂 Lana is crazy. She was following them and taking photos.
* Ouch Graham in the beginning of chapter 4.
* So, what are your thoughts on the "DA wants to charge you"? That bit.. I don't know, on one hand assault is a serious thing, but on the other had it felt over the top, I mean he didn't press any charges against her..
I'm liking this a lot, so I'm looking forward to tomorrow 😃 I don't think this is going to be a book that we'll have a lot to say 😅 except to comment things we found funny, or if something was questionable (like Lana drugging people).

It does have the Grisha and We hunt the flame vibes with the expanding woods/no one can enter and not get lost and die. Did I read We hunt the flame with you @bopeep? 🤔 I know I buddy read it with someone but I can't remember with whom.
So, I looked up the art because I'm not that interested in the book to just not procrastinate reading it 😅 and I'm not liking the shadow one.. he looks like a corpse 😶
I finished today's chapters too, and my interest has risen just a little bit. Her power is interesting, so I'm intrigued to see what is behind all the souls in the woods and how she'll free them. Her friendship is nice, and her friend being her familiar is.. new.

Woohoo, that means I'm not behind on reading 😂
I still haven't read today's chapters, I started chapter 6 but there were people talking loudly very close to me so I couldn't concentrate.
