I listened to chapters 13 and 14 while going to the bus station. I didn't plan on commenting because I'm too lazy today to go thought the chapters to see what I wanted to mention, but since I took a look how chapter 14 ended.. now I must.

* MC's overactive imagination is so SO annoying!
* Ben mentioned the mean lady that's a snake (?) and she threatened to put him in an asylum... finally we are seeing a different side to Rebecca. But of course because Ben is an idiot (which I discovered today because we had a longer interaction with him.. that "idiot" was like "gay" in the terms that we are thinking the words as they are today not when the book was written. And I didn't register the "idiot" the way it was meant). Edit Jeez, I forgot to finish this thought. Because Ben is the way he is the MC doesn't believe him, same as if he was a child because oh what would he know.

* I'm intrigued by the guy that visited Mrs. Danvers.

* I love that Mrs. Danvers caught the MC in Rebecca's room and then showed her every Rebecca's thing.

yep, she's not a great character to follow.. but maybe in the end that'll make her a great character to follow 🤔 you know one of those anti-hero characters

As for the word gay it means happy or something positive. First time I heard it was in the 50s tv series I love Lucy I was shocked, and later I gathered that the word had a different meaning then.

I'm slowly going through chapter 11. Things are happening, like we are hearing how Rebecca is amazing and everyone was impressed with her abilities but also we are seeing how that affects our already insecure character...

Jasper was being infuriating, he kept barking at the poor man
with the idiot’s eyes. I guess the "idiot's eyes" is a 50s or whenever time thing but it's rubbing me the wrong way.

Chapter 12.
It was nice of Beatrice. There was something rather sincere and pathetic about her going off to a shop in London and buying me these books because she knew I was fond of painting.

Does pathetic have another meaning? Because it's so rude of her to think like that about Beatrice when she bought her something that she thought the MC would like. The MC is feeling inadequate to be Mrs de Winter and thinks everyone is thinking low of her, but she's not anything better judging other people.

I feel like I should've just stopped after chaper 11 and went to watch my drama.

Because of the movie, but also we get the vibes here, her obsession with Rebecca is what this book's revolving around, how she's thinking oh Rebecca this, oh Rebecca that. I think that's the reason the MC doesn't even have a name, she's making herself so insignificant by comparing herself to Rebecca and putting her on a pedestal even when she doesn't know her... not having a name to be referred to is the ultimate show of insignificance.

Chapter 10. How inconsiderate is she.. I gathered she knows Rebecca drowned... and she's still "Oh, why don't you want to go to the bay?"

I apparently started listening to chapter 11... but I also apparently drifted to sleep while listening to it. Maybe I'll try listening to it, or maybe I'll just give up on it for today. Wow, this is really going slooooow.

I did that.. I still do that 😂 I just can't with people

Chapter 9. The MC running of when Maxim's sister came to the house was so childish.

I'm not being a good buddy 😅😅😬 But I'm kinda holding my fingers crossed that you too haven't read anything because of work. I started another book today so that I could read something along with Rebecca.. and I.. I binged the whole book.. so yeah, that didn't go so well. SO tomorrow I'll read first a bit of Rebecca before picking some new book.

I finally convinced myself to pick the book back up and I'm enjoying it so much! I planned on reading chapter 20 and stop.. but that didn't happen and I'm starting chapter 25. If I don't finish it today, I probably will tomorrow.

I read only one chapter today, chapter 7, and then I took a nap 😂 I think as long as we are reading it.. I'm gonna have naps after reading it.

I have a question.. how did she know Rebecca had given the dog sugar? I didn't notice that she gave it sugar or that the dog ate any sugar.. so how did she come to that conclusion?

Yeah, I like short chapters too, like in Recursion, those type of chapters just fly by and you end up reading much more than you planned/thought.

@Selina 😂😂😂 how didn't you register her not having a name? 😂 I noticed it, I think I even mentioned it yesterday when we talked about the book. It's "weird" but also gives more mystery to the MC OR, which I find more likely, just shows how insignificant the MC is in the whole story.. after all the book is called Rebecca.

😂😂 I don't mind reading two chapters, because acording to the audiobook the shortest chapter is ch8 with 22min, but after that the min. is 38ish minutes...

I'm at 17%. I listen to the book but I also read along, and I'm liking the narrator. I don't know when it was recorded but the narration is sounding old, and that just fits well with the book, at least for me.

How far did you get? It is difficult to get into it. I don't know how I would've read even these 60 pages I did if it weren't for the audiobook. I mean even with that I'm not following the plan we made; it's gonna be a slower than I thought read. I can't say it picked up, I think that'll happen when she actually gets to Manderley, but I think I'll have a bunch of things to say... I already have a lot of notes, I'm afraid to think by the end how many I'll have.

I read 4-6, and I think that's how I'm gonna read the rest of the book, 3 chapters a day.

I hadn't payed too much attention, because I decided to play a game while listening to the audiobook, so I don't remember if there was something else I would've commented but this one

it showed me that I'll have things to say about the book, and as I progressed.. yeah, I'm gonna have problems with it. Big age differences between characters is something that makes me cringe and makes me uncomfortable, so yeah.. gross.

Her constant fantasizing of her goodbye from De Winters just shows how much she's smitten with him, or at least the idea that there's something more. It also shows how young she is with her eagerness to find him to say goodbye. I mean I don't know how I would act in her situation, but I think or at least hope I wouldn't have acted like her 😂

The goodbye fantasies haven't been the end.. so she fantasizes how everyone will be so delighted that she married Maxim, and she'll be such a wonderful mistress of the house.. that's just silly. She's half his age who would take her seriously? Or the marriage for that matter..

Mrs. Von Hopper was an annoying character when we met her, sticking her nose in every ones business, but after spending some time in the MC's head.. the Mrs. is one very normal and good character.

I'm a bit excited to read her book, because we saw that she's a good friend, but sometimes she was questionable (especially in the beginning).

I had to look up what dog that is because my knowledge of dog breeds is non existent. And awww, they are cute.
