749599 Things certainly ended with a lot of twists. After she "killed" him I had a few "What? Nooo. Really? Wait, wait, what?" moments.
* Didn't expect Raihn to be an heir.
* Didn't expect Oraya to actually be Vincent's daughter
* Surprised but okay with there being a possibility of Oraya fighting back for the kingdom.

It was a good book. I enjoyed it, although I'm regretting a bit not reading it actively. That pause of a week or however long made me distance myself a bit from the story.
Do you want to read the next book?
749599 I'm caught up to you, or at least to finishing chapter 42.
Yep, we are seeing Vincent showing his true self, and Oraya getting her own voice in her head.. she's finally taking steps towards not being Vincent's daughter/pet.
749599 Hey :D I haven't had the time to read, and if I had I probably wasn't that much in the mood to read. No worries, both of us will finish the book by the end of the month :D
749599 Yeah, the Ms. Keane connection was surprising.
The whole Society part was too much and unnecessary, if Mr. Lamont knew about very old sacrifices for power and that's why he bought the camp, and killed people, I would understand and it would be a better plot.

Kyle is the worst written character. In the beginning he was on the teen side, then he killed Tasha and Javier, then he was oh I don't want to help you, I just want to be rid of you, and he's scared, doesn't know what to do, THEN he kills the grandparents, and ofc the end with Bezi.

It started fun, but like you said towards the end it got messy.
Glad we read it together and discussed it :D
749599 Hi :D
No problem. I read chapter 33, and then switched to the other BR I was doing. And then I took a couple of days off because I saw you weren't caught up, so all is good.
I'm off work tomorrow and Wednesday, and that's when I planned more reading.

Nessanyn probably is an old lover, and I would also guess she was human. Otherwise, I don't know why would she have that much impact when mentioned.
749599 From chapter 12 till the end.

If the sheriff isn't somehow involved in the Owl society, he's just a pretty shitty sheriff. You have someone who's injured, could die, and you just leave, and even threaten to put them in jail because they are messing around

The kid that botched their ritual or whatever.. could THAT maybe be Mr. Lamont?... Yep, was right about that. And you were right about someone helping the bad people.

The end, before the 1 year, was a bit chaotic. And I think I already mentioned it, but since things with the society and the sacrifices started happening I wasn't that into it. In the end it all felt somehow shallow? Maybe that isn't the right word but insufficient.
And then we have the 1 year chapter... it started alright, Bezi being the final girl, even maybe Kyle calling her to the place of the crime but... is he stupid? Her girlfriend died there, she almost died, and he gives her the incantation in case she wants wealth? Boy are you stupid? If the end was something like she uses it to find Charity's body okay, but Charity getting out of the water and walking to her... no.

I guess I went in with wrong expectations. I mean I forgot what the synopsis said and was surprised that the slashing in the beginning was a game.
749599 Finished chapter 11, and that's it for today from me.

How is taking the police 40 minutes to get to them make sense? When Ms Keane dropped in the police came pretty fast. Well since things are going bad either way, what if the sheriff is one of those persons that were sacrificing the camp members?

As for the society... in some way you were right about it being some family tradition.. Honestly, I don't have any idea for their "explanation" for doing this, but I also think I'm not liking where this is going. If it were a killer just killing it would be more "fun" but it actually being a society, and when I think about it a weird ass Owl society.. it just...

ooh, is there someone you are suspecting more? I haven't thought about the keys. I would've thought that the killer just went to their cabin and took them *shrugs* it's not like the killer hasn't been moving freely through the camp, but also they wouldn't have a reason to lock their cabins or whatever because they were the only ones there.

Yeah, I think that it's possible for Lamont to save the day or like a bit of the day.. but we'll have to see.
749599 Finished chapter 9, would've read chapter 10 too, but it's too long and I have to get ready for work.

Things are slowly heating up. Yeah, I agree that splitting was a bad idea, but we'll see how bad.
I don't think there is a real supernatural thing going on, at least not from what I read so far, but maybe the killer is a bit on the crazy side. The killer to be too old seems unlikely to me, the family thing is a possibility but then how fucked up is the family if that's a tradition. Maybe it's someone who's a little too much into the horror like Page, maybe they discovered the earlier killings and thought oh it would be fun to make a reboot of the camp. I guess we'll see.

What are our thoughts on Mr. Lamont?
It would be too obvious if he was the killer because he's someone that wasn't that much present for others to see, and then we would think it's him. BUT also what if Mr. Lamont doesn't even exist, he's just a persona made up by the killer.
749599 Yeah, the love from the beginning is something about Oraya and Vincent, and thankfully it's not a romantic love because if it was I think I would've just dropped the book.

V does seem ruthless, probably is, but I don't know.. I'm still on the part that he's using her, however it would appear that he REALLY cares about her, even loves, which is throwing me off a bit, it doesn't go with the ruthless ruler.. but again, he too can have different personalities with different people.. Idk, it just stands out and it may not be anything bad but it feels like a thing that doesn't belong.

Finished chapter 33
I like the relationship that is forming, and like you mentioned in the beginning I like that Raihn is a decent character. The trials are interesting, however we are more concentrating on Oraya figuring stuff about her, and Raihn, than the fights that are a chapter or two. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind it, I like their interactions, just I'm maybe a little surprised with the lack of something that I thought would take a big part of the book. And then we have the whole thing with the rebellion, if it's actually a rebellion and not maybe Vincent starting a war just to conquer more..
749599 Caught up to you.

* As we go I think Oraya's view of the world will change, which is not surprising considering that she now has contact with others to see for herself how other's are like Raihn and Mische and not only what Vincent told her. Although, from the interlude we saw she had her own bad experience with some vampire boy, which would only give more weight to Vincent's warnings and other advice.

Vincent may have been good to her, and even loved her in his way, but I think we need to take in account that we only see him from her point of view. Who knows who he really is, like we saw in ch.25 when they flew over and Oraya saw him that "he emanated death". I think she'll find out that he's not the thing she's been growing up with, that it was a good mask he was putting on, and I think he might have more ulterior motives than teaching her to survive to win the trial.

What motive? I don't know, but I think it has to do something with her magic. I don't know if you noticed but when she was telling him about the burst of power besides not being that surprised with it he said something like "We already knew you had power". I suspect he's not saying we as him and Oraya, but him and who knows who. Because if Mische can feel the power in her, not just a spark that Oraya can sometimes summon but the big boom, then WHY wouldn't Vincent one of the most powerful vampires right when he found her as a child.

OMG -- My mind is just trying to figure stuff and connect maybe non-existing stuff -- WHAT IF the attack that happened when she was a child wasn't a war thing, but a planned thing? Like, what if he could feel the power and went after her, to kill her or...well probably to kill her, but when he saw how feisty she is, he made a full on plan to use her and win the war (according to ch25 he's been waiting for it for a looong time), and then all the manipulation came to play.

I'm preeeeety much invested in how this is going to go.
749599 I agree, the cigarillo dude must be of some importance. Is he human? Is he a possible love interest...

Finished chapter 20. Don't have any thoughts to add, maybe tomorrow when I continue reading.
749599 Yes it's a free time activity, but I also made plans to read it and discuss it with you. But like I said off days, and tomorrow I don't plan on going out of the house.

It was mentioned what her wish will be. She wants to be Vincent's something, I don't remember what it's called even less how to write it. Basically he'll share his power with her so she won't be a human, and also that way he can be sure the winner won't try killing him and taking his throne or whatever.
749599 I haven't made a huge progress today, I got to chapter 11. I'm off work two days hopefully other things won't take too much of my time so that I can catch up.

So far I really like it. The first trial was... interesting, although I think I maybe expected more than that. Not that it was easy but it flew by fast. Maybe the other trials will take more time as I expect them to be harder.
749599 I read chapters 4 and 5 before work, so I'm caught up to you.
The granny is creepy. And as for the dark shadow they saw.. do you think the killer is doing the same thing as the killer from the movie? Like sacrificing people to the lake to get power.
749599 I'm sure I've read the synopsis when I agreed to this buddy read, but I don't remember what it was.. So I was surprised when, after the first few pages, the horror stopped and was "haha the playing is over".

Yeah, I too probably wouldn't want to participate in the acting part. Well, considering that people are supposed to die I'm gonna go with they might be dead. But yeah, what's with the lake, why is it forbidden to swim in it? And also, all the animals going in and what, dying?

I haven't read much, only the first 3 chapters, but I'm glad I started it. It's an easy read.
749599 I still haven't started it. Life is happening and I didn't find the time to read. Hopefully, I'll manage to start it and catch up from tomorrow.
