I'd recommend Delirium and The Declaration to fans of The Hunger Games. Again, they're Young Adult novels rather than aimed at Primary children.

I have. I'd say Uglies and
Delirium (another very interesting dystopian novel) are probably for 13+ rather than for Primary children.

Great review, Robbi. Trish Cooke is actually from a Caribbean family, but grew up in Bradford, and started writing books for her own son when she realised how few picture books show Black British families! I love them, and EYFS and KS1 children I've taught have loved them too.

I really like The Hunger Games. I'd recomment The Declaration as a great dystopian novel set in the UK.

Joe, you may like Dead Man's Cove by Lauren St John (I reviewed it here http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...) or Helen Moss books, which I haven't yet read but a PGCE trainee recommended last year.

Of course, Terry Deary is more famous for Horrible Histories nowadays! (and being rude about teachers...)

It's also refreshing to have a cover with an identifiably black child on the cover. If you go into the library or a bookshop and have a look at covers, you'll see how rare this is, even if characters in the book are black.
