58421 I've been sitting at a couple chapters into book 3 so I'm probably just a bit behind ya (busy work week :))
My brain told me it was too early for book 2 to break me so I was prepared to make it through. I'm already anticipating to really love Ewan McGregor for these moments that I hope the show covers.

58421 Ooh I bet that's an interested but not all surprising read. I can't imagine being a kid growing up these days with social media, etc.

I finished this last night and your hubby is right. But the journey to get there was so enjoyable and interesting to me that I didn't mind and immediately put in a request at the library for book 2, haha.

58421 I've only got about 50 pages of this one left and I'm totally avoiding it, haha.
For being "grim dark" I'm surprised at how often I've chuckled out loud while reading this. Yes, it's violent but so is war in so many historical fiction novels I've read and by comparison to GOT f***ed-upness, this isn't even close in my opinion.
I'm glad I started here for this grim genre because it's been a fun ride and I'll certainly continue with the series.

Lorraine, if you get a chance to join in, I hope you enjoy it too!

58421 Haha I feel ya! I literally remember buying it from Goodwill almost 3 years ago, all stoked too because it was so talked then but I still didn't read it lol.

58421 Anyone interested in Velvet Was the Night for May?
Not open for other months though cause it'll be going back to the library :)

58421 Got through Book One tonight and while I'm only reading a few pages here and there, I'm enjoying the slower, leisurely pace of this one so far.
This is quite charming and I'm glad that I also own Rules of Civility for later reading. I have a feeling I'll be reading more of Amor Towles.

58421 I've not had a ton of time to read this last week but when I have a few minutes, this is the book I'm picking up (even put down some Murderbot to get to this one instead). Needless to say, I'm really, really enjoying this so far.
Every character is interesting to me and not a single point of view has bored me yet.
I read Abercrombie's Half a King a month or two ago and didn't really love it (YA is very hit and miss for me) so I'm glad that this has held my attention.
So far so good! :)

58421 It's a hefty one but I'd like to nominate 11/22/63 by Stephen King
11/22/63 by Stephen King

Connection to the theme :
"On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. Unless..."
Changing the past? The future? You get the picture ;)

Be comforted knowing that at least the ending is worth the effort, haha

58421 Oh I feel ya on that, haha. *whispers* I probably would have stopped reading if everyone dropped out here.
I'm already anticipating being mad at John Gwynne for suckering me into another book because he wrote one heck of a last page! lol
The more I think about all the little things I didn't like about it the more annoyed I am that it finished so strongly.

58421 June is cool with me!

58421 I'd like to suggest The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah for May or June

58421 Finished!!
Truth be told, I was not enjoying this for a significant amount of time haha.
Bored throughout the middle. Confused and not really caring that I didn't really know who the heck or what the whoot was happening because booored. :)
But that ending!!!!
What a finish indeed!
I didn't think I would be on the lookout to pick up the next installment but after that ending I can say without doubt that I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for a copy.

58421 I read the first 20 pages or so of this one tonight and I am stoked to pick this up finally.
Longest standing on my TBR, the first one I ever added to my Goodreads list.
It feels like the perfect change of pace for me right now because I've been deep in the science fiction/fantasy world.
I plan on diving in come the 1st :) but I'm a slow reader so no rush!
Mar 29, 2024 09:17PM

58421 My Libby hold came in early for this ebook so I plan on cracking into it come the 1st if not sooner :)
Happy reading ya'll!
Mar 25, 2024 08:49PM

58421 Well that gives me hope and motivation to finish now, haha.
Glad to know it's not just a me issue since sometimes I wonder if reading multiple books at the same time kind of kills the enjoyment of one over the other.
Mar 25, 2024 08:19PM

58421 Welp, I'm about 70% of the way through and I'm a little meh overall. I'm finding the side characters a little....indistinguishable?
Even Elvar and Orka at times. For me, it's like a movie playing in my head while I read but I'm finding that I don't see a face or hear a voice for these characters.
Hoping it's a strong finish because I feel like I got through a lot really quickly because I was enjoying it! But then it just sorta fizzled a bit.

58421 March:

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami
Yo. I tell you I've been wanting to read this soo bad for sooo long. I started it...late last year? But it was so dense and slower paced I didn't always want to pick it up but I thought about it, a lot. Hit a major slump at the beginning of the year but found the joy and strangeness in this again in February. I very easily could have binged the second half but I wanted to pay attention, I wanted to take my time. Surprisingly brutal at times, I really had no idea what to expect. Overall weird, but I really liked it. I'm not mad that I have 2 beautiful editions of this novel on my shelf.

The Expert System's Brother (Expert System, #1) by Adrian Tchaikovsky The Expert System's Brother by Adrian Tchaikovsky
I reaaallly wanted this one to be as good if not better than Elder Race.
I was disappointed. It was just kind of boring and I didn't care about anyone. Maybe fleshed out into a novel this would have been a winner for me? I'm not holding this against the author though. I have Children of Time and Cage of Souls on my shelf and I absolutely will crack into at least one of them this summer.
I think this particular story just wasn't for me.

Rogue Protocol (The Murderbot Diaries, #3) by Martha Wells Rogue Protocol by Martha Wells
YEeeeSSsss moooree Muurrdderrrbooottt.
Look. I love this series. I'm completely 100% down to read every book in this series. I love it like I loved the Green Mile back in the day when it released in little novellas.

Exit Strategy (The Murderbot Diaries, #4) by Martha Wells Exit Strategy by Martha Wells
We're getting deeper ya'll. Murderbot is changing and I'm soo ready to see how things continue to evolve in the next installments.
I do still miss ART though. Someone tell me if ART comes back! *cries* lol

58421 February:

All Systems Red (The Murderbot Diaries, #1) by Martha Wells All Systems Red by Martha Wells
Oooh my goodness did I get sucked in IMMEDIATELY! Hilarious, fast paced and so incredibly fun! I had been in a serious reading slump and could not get motivated to read anything. This book changed that.

Half a King (Shattered Sea, #1) by Joe Abercrombie Half a King by Joe Abercrombie
I've been wanting to read this author for a few months now and I stumbled upon this one at Bookoff. Still feeling slumpy, this wasn't intimating with it's shorter page count. I enjoyed the reading experience of this one but I can say (weeks later as I write this) I don't remember much of it and honestly can't remember the main characters name...huh, interesting. I want to read Abercrombie's heavier/adult works as I have a feeling they'll be more my speed. The stakes weren't high enough and the characters too forgettable for me to get really invested.

Artificial Condition (The Murderbot Diaries, #2) by Martha Wells Artificial Condition by Martha Wells
I could not WAIT to get into this one! ART (also my old department name) was my absolute fave. I loved the relationship between ART and Murderbot and I really hope we get to spend time with ART in later books. LOVED IT!
