It's only been 9 years. Don't rush the man ;-)

I'm sure he'll be finished the series by 2050 :-?

4170 I found it odd too. I'd only read the comic and assumed it was pronounced the same as the word 'bode', but I got used to it in the TV show.

It's not the first, and definitely won't be the last, time I find American pronunciation "peculiar" ;-)
4170 Robert wrote: "Anybody else getting a Starship Troopers vibe from this? At least the training in the early chapters?"

Definitely big Starship Troopers vibe early on.

Some other old bloke agreed with us earlier in this thread ;-)

I'm enjoying it after 4 Chapters. More so than last month's pick.
4170 I can understand those who need to get it from a library needing advance notice and, if it's available, reading it and returning it early.

I impose a rule on myself, that I don't start reading the pick earlier than the evening before the start of the month.

I'm a trend setter. I've no idea what he's trying to do ;-)

4170 Ruth wrote: "As the Sixth House is the house of the book nerds, I’ll bet that’s where most of us belong!"

I thought the same thing :-)

We did have a brief discussion about this in the announcement thread.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

My ideas of where some of us would fit from that thread:

First House - Veronica (The Emperor)

Second House - The Roberator
The Second House is the militant strength of the Emperor. Deeply interwoven with the Cohort, they comport themselves with military rigour in all situations. Their fervent devotion to rank and order makes them prone to taking charge, often over the protestations of other houses.

Third House - Me :-)
The Third House is the vanguard of trend in the Empire, setting fashion and sparking gossip with their every move. Not only do they spark rumours, they also diligently collect intelligence, both personal and political.

Fourth House- Tom
The Fourth House is the vanguard of the Empire, first over the line on every battlefield as the Emperor wages war across the galaxy.

Sixth House- The rest of you ;-)

4170 2 of those things are real life potential disasters we survived. 1 is not. What Mayan Predictions? That was only New Age nonsense made up by idiots.

What did the Mayans, actually, think would happen at the end of their long count calendar?

The same thing that happens at the end of our calendar. The next day we start it all over again.

4170 Ruth wrote: "So how does ripping out each page of the book as you read it fit into this grid?"

Psychopathic and sociopathic behaviour can't be quantified on a grid designed for us human readers ;-)
4170 I wouldn't call 19 years, "just before" ;-)

The Cold War was well and truly alive in 1972 and looked like it wasn't going anywhere soon. That it would be gone in 20 years would have been laughed at by both sides.
4170 Trike wrote: "Just like America’s elections. :p."

I don't fully understand your complicated electoral system.

Our pollies just call an election whenever they feel like it and a month later we vote.

Your's just seem to drag on for years :-?

4170 That youtube video is region locked.

This one is not
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clU6y...

Alan Tudyk is the only reason I will give that a look. SYFY and comedy don't fill me with any great hope :-?

I do hope they go into the history of the keys in the TV show.

I only read the first issue of NOS4A2. It didn't hook me. I may give it another chance if it's on sale again.

4170 Interestingly, even with the huge list of nominations in previous years spread over a few weeks, the last 3 March Madness winners (In 2017, 18 & 19) have been among the first 4 books nominated and were nominated within the first hour of the announcement post going up.
