The Ursula K. Le Guin Trust announces the Shortlist for the first Ursula K. Le Guin Fiction Prize. The prize honors a book-length work of imaginative fiction with $25,000. The nine shortlisted books will be considered by a panel of five jurors—adrienne maree brown, Becky Chambers, Molly Gloss, David Mitchell, and Luis Alberto Urrea. Later US printings of Midnight Riot and Moon Over Soho used cover art like the original UK covers. I think subsequent books in the series used the same cover art for US and UK editions.
Back when the book was first published in the US, there was some discussion about the cover design. The mass market paperback published in the US had a large bald man in silhouette.
The US cover of the second book in the series, Moon Over Soho, used a similar silhouette.

However, some of the cover photos used for marketing before the books were published clearly showed a large bald black man instead of a silhouette.
In the book, Peter Grant has short hair and he describes himself as somewhere between IC3 and IC6, British police communication codes for Black (IC3) and Arab or North African (IC6).
Was Constable Grant white-washed (or silhouette-washed)? I dunno. Book covers are weird.
