ebooks and rising costs are taking a toll on mass market paperbacks
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the weekly German tv guide magazine Gong published serialized Star Trek fotonovels. Some of the actors were replaced by German fotonovel stars. Joan Collins, who played Edith Keeler in The City on the Edge of Forever (Gefangen in der Vergangenheit) was not only replaced, her character was renamed Eva Light.https://www.startrekcomics.info/image...

I wonder if "Sesame Street version" would have been a better translation of "Jackanory version" for US readers?

I searched my Kindle edition of Midnight Riot and didn't find the words "blues and twos", "jam sandwich", nor "Jackanory version".
Can someone search the UK text and tell me which chapters these terms appeared in? Kindle search usually states chapter and page for search results.
I think Aaronovitch is writing another in-universe story with POV of FBI Agent Kimberly Reynolds introduced in Whispers Under Ground. He's been asking about American English usage on Twitter lately.

Is this Peter Grant or maybe just the son of Ben Aaronovitch?https://twitter.com/Ben_Aaronovitch/s...
I'm just guessing here. I don't really know.

I've read the entire series (novels and comics) in print a couple of times. The first audio story I read was A Rare Book of Cunning Device, when it first came out as a free Audible exclusive download. After listening to and enjoying Kobna Holdbrook-Smith's narration, I've been working my way through the audio versions, time and access permitting. But I think we've seen, from the various reactions of other S&L folks this month, that the first book in the series doesn't necessarily appeal to all readers. It's probably the most violent story in the series, and Peter's London architectural musings and snark may be an acquired taste.
Nevertheless, the Rivers of London series has become something of a comfort read for me, and an easy recommendation in print or audio.

Laser: 18/25
