SP11 20.2 Rhymes (35 new)
Apr 08, 2011 04:26PM

36119 Okay I need a ruling on this one.

The KITCHEN House by Kathleen GRISSOM

The way I pronounce those two words, I think they rhyme. I know they don't end with the same letter -- but I think they rhyme.

Can I get a ruling please? :-)

Unfortunately, Sam has decided that repeated words do not qualify for this task."

Hi Liz:

No worries, thanks for tracking down that clarification.

No worries. It's sometimes tricky to understand all the rules for the tasks, especially for a new player. You're doing great!

Hi Camille:

I don't think this works for Sam's 20.10 task. For task 20.10 the book can't work for any other 10 or 20 point task. This book works for Karen's task 10.7; the "Scrabble" task.

36119 Jayme - what or who are you interested in learning more about? Is there a period in history, an event, or a type of work that you're interested in?

There are so many good biographies out there it would probably be helpful to narrow down your pool of choices by figuring out what/who you want to learn more about.

Hi Ellen:

For the Spring Cleaning tasks (15.x Series) there is a different set of Style Points than those that can be used for the Reading with Style (RWS) tasks.

Spring Cleaning Style Points
+5 Oldies if book is published before 1980
+5 Jumbo if book is more than 500 pages.

The maximum points possible for any 15 point task is 25 points. I don't believe that Liz has posted your points yet, so it might be easiest for her if you just correct your original post (Msg #399).

For this task there just needs to be a word in the title that starts with the letters "Pi". So yes,
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society works. Pi is found in Pie.

Hey Rebekah, where is this quote from? I was thinking of reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest for Task 10.8 (Penguin book list) but if I can work it into a 20 point task, all the better!

Sam has indicated that the Sookie books are classified as supernatural, no horror.

From the Spring Cleaning Q&A folder (Msg #20) "For our purposes here, "supernatural" means books that feature ghosts, vampires, werewolves, witches etc. in a macabre way. Gandalf and Harry Potter are not macabre (i.e., fantasy), whereas The Dresden Files and the Sookie Stackhouse books are."

36119 Copied from the Iambic Pentameter folder:
re the Liz's Quotable Quotes Task 20.8:

"..and for another type of combo, Tender Is the Night comes from a line in Keats' Ode to the Nightingale

Though the dull brain perplexes and retards:

--- For more options and Style points ---
Tender Is the Night is on the Penquin list (Task 10.8), and it's a Canon book.

Wow, what a nice offer Rebekah!

I think I'm going to have to pass though. My house is already overflowing with books that I'm going to list on Paperback Swap, or donate after I finish reading them. If I start collecting books that I can't bear to part with I'll soon be featured on one of those "Hoarders" episodes. :-}

I'm in the Hold Queue at the library for this book. You have fun at the signing. I want to hear your impressions of Alexander McCall Smith!

Hi Karen:

I was looking at Mother's Milk but from the blurb it sounded like it was part of a series. (Or came after a series?) Does this need to be read in any particular order with the author's other books?

Yes -- you can repeat the Group Reads task.

I know! My library doesn't have The Summer Bookand neither does Paperback Swap. I've Wish Listed the book there, but I doubt I'll get a copy before the end of the challenge. Now I'm debating between A Game of Thrones and You Know When the Men Are Gone.

I think it covered stoires from the first book or two. I vaguely remembered some of the stories. The salon owner was a completely new character. I watched the series on DVD a few months ago. Does anyone know if they did a second season? It was just such a lovely show.

36119 I found a new book that will fit this task:
The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party

It's the next book in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series, and it's being published this month.

It also qualifies for my task as Botswana is a current Peace Corps country.
