The Forgotten Garden
+ 5 Combo Points for Sam's task, 20.10. It's #34 on the list of Best Gothic Books of All Time.

These points should also be added to Kazza's score as she's claimed points for this book in message #192.

(I was contemplating reading this book for Sam's Task. Now I'm not so sure given Kazza's review.)

36119 Yes, but then I have to start a whole new spreadsheet with all the point formulas etc I have already done in my template. Seems like too much work at the moment.

Thanks. I thought it would work for 20.5, but it's still driving me crazy. :-)

Wow, how cool is that! It sure is nice when serendipity steps in sometimes. :-)

36119 Okay, this is just driving me crazy! I hate it that I still don't have my own computer functional. Between my work laptop and my smartphone I can keep pretty wrll keep up with everthing, but I DON'T have my RwS spreadsheet template available. Drat it all with computers sometimes anyway.

Last week I put Naoko by Keigo Higashino on hold at my library. I picked it up yesterday but can't for the life of me remember which task this book qualified for. I am pretty sure I saw it on a linked list in one of the tasks. It's not a title I would have come up with on my own. But now I can't find the task it belongs to.

It looks like a good book, and it will get Translation style points, but drat it I can't pigeonhole it now. So, if you don't have enough to do between reading and ompiling your own TBR lists; and want to help me find the task this errant book belongs to, I'd sure appreciate it.

Maybe someone else has seen it on a list and remembers which task it belongs to, or perhaps has also penciled it in for that elusive task? If so, please let me know. It would sure put my mind at ease. :-)

Wa-hoo! PLUS Oldie points, AND Review Style Points (Have I mentioned how much I love it that we have Style Points for reviews? I'd been asking for that for a couple of quarters.)

Ooh good one. I think The Turn of the Screw is on one of the lists from Sam's task 20.10, and I know it's on the list for Task 20.6, (Unreliable Narrators). And it is a 5 Star Review book so it qualifies for Combo points with Task 10.2.

I was originally going to use it for Task 20.6, but I think I'll move it to this task.

Oh great --- just what I need, another book on my totally overloaded TBR shelf. Thanks so much! :-) (I just can't resist adding it though.)

Ooh -- Let the Great World Spin is sitting in my headboard right now. Maybe I should use it for this task, and move Darling Jim to task 20.4.

Now I'm off to try to figure out the 5 star ratings from other members...
Sep 02, 2011 12:37PM

36119 I think I'm going to go with Darling Jim for this task.

I think it works for 20.4 since some of the book is written as exceprts from diaries.

"told from the POVs of a postman, a dead woman and her diary, and a live woman and her diary, among others. "

Plus, my library has it in CD Audiobook format. Wa-hoo!

36119 I think that books by Orhan Pamuk would work for this task.
Aug 27, 2011 01:10PM

36119 I've pencilled in, Infidel -- by Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Will this work for this task? This has been on my TBR shelf for a long time, but I can't tell from the blurb on the back whether it complies with the spirit of the task.

I have intermittent access from work, and once in awhile I can get to the library. So I'm not totally cut off. I've just been so busy that I haven't had time to take the computer in. It's such a hassle to unplug everything, etc. But I'll get it fixed sometime soon.

Oh --- and as a bonus for those of you who read this thread --- I just sent Liz my Group Reads selection for the Fall Challenge. I selected.... The Paris Wife. Liz will get it added to the Group Reads list soon. This is a little sneak peek for the Social bunch. :-)

36119 Really BIG thanks need to go out to Liz. She's done the lion's share of pulling the Fall Challenge together.

My computer is down right now --- and I just haven't had time to take it in to be looked at, so my access to this site is limited. (Hence my limited involvement in the upcoming challenge to date.)

Thanks Liz!!

Thanks for posting the review. The reviews are supposed to be a minimum of 100 words. Is this review 100 words long? It looks a little short to me. --- Tell us more, tell us more. :-)
