These challenges are so good for my reading habits (and bad for things like housework and laundry). I normally read a book per week. I think I might finish 3 this week! Normal for lots of you... crazy for me!

I hope you like it! It works for lots of tasks. Worth the read.

Hello team Vetinari--Just dropping by from Sam Vimes to say that The Thursday Murder Club is fantastic. I'm so surprised by how much I'm enjoying it. Thanks!

I haven't tried to read anything in a language other than English since college and the few times I did, it took easily twice as long. I'm in awe of people who can seemlessly switch back and forth.

Ohh that sounds good. I love to read from around the world. Did you read it in Portuguese or a translation?

Oh my! I had never heard of that original UK title for And Then There Were None. That is, indeed, horrifying. One hour into this challenge and I've already learned so much...

I love Antoine Laurain, but I haven't read Vintage 1954 yet. Thanks for the rec!
Random discovery I made while trying to plan books...I have two books in my short list that feature a hedgehog. What are the odds?!
Popping over from team Sam Vimes with a couple of recommendations. If you are looking for a book about strong female friendships (with a hint of magical realism), I recommend The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat.
The Shadow of the Wind is one of my favorites. It takes place in Spain and I felt like I was transported. I'm not even sure what genre I'd put it in...mystery/historical fiction?
Two of my recent favorites are:
Anxious People (quirky characters, navigating life)
and The Wife Upstairs (mystery with a twisty plot)
And one bonus recommendation just for your team --
The Book Thief
It's narrated by Death, so should be right up your alley.
Happy reading!

I love books set in other places (I'm from the U.S.), and I'll read almost anything, so always taking recommendations!
I think this is making sense to me and I'm getting how it all flows. One more question (and then I might really be done!)...I see in the rules that books under 100 pages are zero points. So if we read a series that has accompanying novellas (I think the one I'm looking at is 88 pages), is there any point listing it? Can it be used for the accompanying games even if it's zero points? No big deal either way-- just checking.
Thanks for answering all my questions--it looks like a fun challenge. I'll plan some books this weekend.
I have a couple more questions...Is this the complete list of tasks for the 3 months or will there be additional challenges as we go?
Do these have to be completed in any order? For example, I noticed that the next book in the mystery series I'm reading has a hedgehog on the cover. Should I wait to read that one until we're working on BINGO or is it ok to start with that one May 1?
Thanks!
Suzanne wrote: "Hello! Another Rincewind here making a recommendation - or maybe it's an alternate time-line Rincewind - ..."Wow-- that's two recommendations for The House in the Cerulean Sea. Now I'm tempted.
One more question-- as we start thinking about what we'll read, do you want us to communicate that somewhere for planning? Or are there so many categories that everything just fits somewhere and we don't need to worry about it yet?
Melindam wrote: "Hello Denise, glad to have you on the team. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it soon once we start and feel free to ask questions.
What books/genres do you like reading?"
I work in a public library, so I read a lot of what other people recommend from various genres. My favorites are probably mysteries/suspense/contemporary fiction/rom coms.
I'm also playing UNO and someone over there recommended this challenge, but this one seems a bit more complicated. I'm confident I'll figure it out... eventually!
I haven't read any of the discworld books. I might try one.
Can someone explain how the BINGO card works? That's a little fuzzy to me.
