35559 ok i have a TON of stuff for Y so we should be good there.

also idk if you have been following the ask the volcanologist thread but we should probably all double check our links on the spreadsheet and make sure they are to the correct edition of the book if that is something that will make a difference in the task. most of the spell it out stuff should be good but if we used the narrator for the letter then it has to link to the audio version and also make sure we have the correct covers in the group 2 tasks if it's applicable. i generally just shelve the default edition no matter what i actually read so it wasn't something i really thought about until someone else asked a question.

35559 ok, thanks for the clarification. i totally understand that you guys have a lot of work to do with checking the books so i will double check my links on the spreadsheet, and it's good to know what you look at with an umpire review as well.

35559 i should have at least one W and two O for the spell it out if needed. haven't checked for Y books yet but i know i don't have any U's unless i happen to run across a random character while reading.

35559 is it okay if we shelve the default edition [i always do this no matter what edition i actually read] but link to the 'correct' edition in the spreadsheet if it affects the task in some way? i find that trying to shelve whatever edition i'm actually reading often leads to me ending up with duplicates on my shelves so i always just do the default unless it's in a different language or something.

35559 woo! great job on round 1 everyone :)

35559 i guess we'll see what nicole wants to do. she can always just start some spell it out books after group 1 as long as she doesn't finish it before we get through with group 2 but she might have wanted one of the group 2 tasks, so many comments i can't remember lol
35559 i think the other options were the i bring the fire books [first one is wolves so i'm guessing that's what you mean] or incryptid and honestly i'm not super in the mood for incryptid lol. but we won't be reading something new til mid september anyway since we're taking a week off then doing the new october daye so we don't have to decide now. i'm open to other suggestions but also i feel like i'm so picky about urban fantasy these days because a lot of authors just seem to go by a formula and it's very boring. this one did have a lot of originality to it really but also there was the other stuff that i can't really ignore after this book
35559 claudia, i see you finished and we apparently share a rating for this book. unfortunate :(
Aug 22, 2019 02:33PM

35559 yeah we are doing all of them since group 2 is worth 50 each and for group 1 you get the 50 bonus points. so you can fill in your name for whatever ones you want
Aug 22, 2019 02:32PM

35559 yeah i would say it probably doesn't count then as the whole background is just kind of the green and purple blobs lol oh well
Aug 22, 2019 11:34AM

35559 ok no problem, we've got plenty of time and like i said i will probably finish 2 more books by saturday that i would otherwise not be counting towards the challenge so we will have options
Aug 22, 2019 11:00AM

35559 also idk how you are doing on your R book sophie but if you end up not being able to finish it we can move the L book from trilogy to R and i can use one of the books i'm reading now for L. i know several books had books planned to start saturday if you weren't done but i'll probably be done w/ both of these by then so it seems easier to me if it's needed.

35559 sounds good. idk which book you are planning on doing but if something goes wrong and you need a backup then i found on that list that The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has a green cover.

i put my name under the green writing task because i have found 2 different books that i was meaning to reread that work for it so i'll have a few options.

35559 as for the green book w/ burn in the author's name ...that seems to be the hardest one. i'm looking through this list but not finding anything so far.

someone asked about The Cat Who Talked Turkey (Cat Who... #26) by Lilian Jackson Braun in the question thread and that definitely works so if someone likes cozy mysteries they could read that maybe. i personally do not lol
Aug 22, 2019 05:33AM

35559 for the 'something green on the cover' do 'random blobs' count or do we think it needs to be something concrete like a tree or a lamp or something?

asking about The Blazing World by Margaret Cavendish this book in particular because to me there is indeed something green on the cover but i'm just never sure how nitpicky we're being lol. probably overthinking it.
Aug 22, 2019 05:29AM

35559 yeah at the moment we don't need to worry about regeneration. and i will go ahead and ask about whether those blobs count as 'something green'

although i did find A Study in Scarlet - (illustrated) by Arthur Conan Doyle and tin eye says that text is green so could work for stage 2 task 1

i think the best thing would be as soon as we finish countdown for sophie to start something for stage 2 while the rest of us work on stage 1. for stage one we only need 2 of the books to be past BOMs so i could take 2 letters and read books that were not BOMs while christine and nicole each read one that was a BOM. and if they finish theirs before i finish both of mine then they could start on stage 2 stuff as long as they don't finish before me.

so if christine and nicole want to add their name to a letter each for stage 1 on the spreadsheet and sophie can add her name to whichever stage 2 task she wants then we can fill in after that
35559 wow that does sound awful :( have you had trouble with flying before or did this just come out of nowhere? it's been years since i've flown anywhere lol
Aug 21, 2019 06:08PM

35559 also i think our best bet points-wise would be

10 books - countdown - 100 points
04 books - stage 1 - 120 points + 50 bonus = 170 points
04 books - stage 2 - 200 points
22 books - stage 3 - 830 points

using:
09 books - wordcount - 330 points
03 books - you - 140 points
04 books - with - 140 points
06 books - tineye - 220 points

which would give us these letters for the spell it out

c - 1
d - 1
e - 2
h - 1
i - 2
n - 2
o - 3
r - 1
t - 3
u - 2
w - 2
y - 2

which is still a decent spread of letters i feel. and totals 1300 points if i've done my math right [not a guarantee so someone might want to check me lol]
Aug 21, 2019 05:43PM

35559 do you think The Blazing World by Margaret Cavendish counts as something green on the cover w/ acid in the author's name? i mean there IS something green on the cover but that something is 'blobs' so idk if it needs to be something more concrete than that or if i'm over thinking it?

because The Blazing World by Margaret Cavendish this edition tin eye is calling brown / gray

and the blazing world by Margaret Cavendish this edition has no page count

i can look at some more alternate editions of classics on my shelf tomorrow but if we're not comfortable with one of those then i might really not have anything for stage 2

[edit] i guess i could also use A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett for green cover and burn in the author's name. although thats more a book that i added to my tbr with only a small chance of actually reading it one day lol. also i guess it is not 'bright' green so probably doesn't count anyway now that i think about it ...
35559 i knooooow. and it was basically played for laughs too so i was just like like WOW can't believe all that just happened. the whole goddess sex game thing just got so much worse in this book.
