@Sarah what really killed me about this book was how bad the actual police/detectives were at their jobs lol like they had no idea what was happening and didn't seem to actually be doing anything to look into the case other than keep calling the kids in to ask them the same questions over and over again like i get that they were trying to 'wear them down' or whatever but also maybe do something productive???

for the Qs and Us it might be helpful to go back to the slytherin group we used for quidditch and take a look at the planning posts. i think there was a post specifically for Qs Us and Fs

ok i finished it! i really enjoyed it overall

a few spoilery thoughts (view spoiler)[someone asked whether it was successful as a mystery since so many of us guessed the ending. for me i actually like mystery books more when i figure them out [although i guess i did do it a bit faster than normal for this one] because 1. it makes me feel smart and 2. i hate when the explanation is super over-complicated and the author has to spend like an entire chapter info dumping the solution because there's no way for anyone to actually figure it out so i honestly prefer it to be 'easier' to figure out, and really the characters drive the story for me more than the mystery anyway but that might be why i don't read a lot of mysteries.

also someone said they wanted jake to be involved just because he was such an asshole and i admit i had the same feeling lol. like it might not be 'nice' to hope some dude ends up in jail just because he's a controlling asshole to his girlfriend but i hated him from the moment he was introduced so actually pretty glad he was involved.

the thing with nate and bronwyn at the end bothered me a bit because like ...he just totally blew her off and now she's going to go back to him but i guess she is just hanging out as a friend first and not just dropping her entire life for him and also i understand why he freaked out so i still think they'll do okay. @Melissa i read that a few weeks ago and i really liked it!

i got through chapter 24 today which is a horrible place to stop lol it's right when (view spoiler)[nate gets arrested (hide spoiler)] so i might try to finish it tonight.

my general theory remains the same although (view spoiler)[i guess simon would have to have someone to post the stuff for him after he died if he did in fact commit suicide and my money is on his only friend, janae i think? it would explain why she's losing so much weight and seems so weird [i mean beyond just being upset that he died] (hide spoiler)]

i am continuing to really enjoy each of the character's story line and how the author is using a lot of well known high school tropes and inverting them. i was worried this would be like 'too YA' before i started it but it's really very enjoyable.

there was a character named xain in my book darkfire by garrett robinson [i read it towards the end of last month i think] although i'm not sure if you used that for something else or if it's too late to move anything around

ok so basically we should finish anything we're reading now by the end of the month

also we can still use character names for the new spell it out challenge right? so i guess we should start adding that to our competition posts again. i would go back and edit some of my other ones but i am so bad at remembering character names lol if we need any weird letters let me know though and i'll try to remember

@Lexi haha ok i know i said any date but i've actually got BRs starting on both of those days so maybe if we could do like the 8th or even the 6th just to give me a few days lol

yeah i'll still be doing it as well

@Yare i would also be in for the sequel to cinder whenever you get to it, i read it a few months ago and really enjoyed it

@Lexi if you're going to read it in august anyway then i'll join you, any date is fine for me

i've got the overall standings one bookmarked at home but unfortunately i'm at work right now lol

@JanEyre9 hopefully it will fit into one of the triwizard requirements in some way and even if we don't get buddy read points we will still be able to slot it in somewhere for the challenge

i don't really want to rush to finish it before the end of the month and i've got another BR starting tomorrow anyway but if everyone else wants to then you guys can go ahead

@Lexi they apparently don't count for august so maybe we should wait until september so we can focus more on triwizard during august? unfortunately i'm already in like 5 BRs in august but i feel like it would be better now to not pile more on

i know, i've set up like 4 or 5 BRs for august as well :( i mean it's still fun to read books with people but i wish we would have known that before

also what are banked books?

@Jenny yeah i had a lot more trouble with bullying in grade school and by high school it seemed like everyone had just chilled out [and also i had totally stopped caring what people though so it was all like eh whatever to me anyway lol] unfortunately i didn't get to read more of this today but i'm hoping to make more progress tomorrow

i think someone was asking about the bear and the nightingale and i said i could do it sometime in august and they said they would check back in a few weeks so i'm still up for it if anyone else is

apparently i just went to a super chill high school because i can remember like maybe two actual physical fights ever taking place that i heard about
