you guys are all veeery quiet lol. anyway i finished my other group 2 book so we can circle back around to group 1 now. probably won't have both of mine for that done until tomorrow night as i'm doing them both on audio. Nicole and Sophie - is one of yours a BOM or book another group has read? we have two right now so we need one more

i'll start it tomorrow morning then. the lava challenge is messing up my planning because there are different 'zones' every week and you have to complete one before moving onto another otherwise i would have started it today lol

@cathy and claudia when are you guys planning on starting this? i'm thinking i won't get to it til tomorrow probably

well i finished resurrectionist so never mind on that and i will start prodigal son now

@Nicole if you have something that works for task one [yellow writing, poison in title then you can go ahead and take over for me if you want because i've still got quite a bit to go on resurrectionist of caligo and haven't even started prodigal son yet

awesome! i'm not sure if i will be able to finish both my group 2 books today but i'm working on them lol

yeah i think the new rules with regards to accurately predicting reading levels and also how the points work by page count will be interesting and help to even things out a bit.

also i've been running the numbers on words we can spell and i think for the most points [without just respelling in/on] we should go with

task 7 - initials
task 7 - poison
task 7 - found
task 7 - word
task 9 - any
task 4 - not
task 4 - usa
task 2 - one
task 4 - uk
task 9 - in
task 3 - a

there was one space left over so i figured we could just use A even though it's not worth many points. not as many big point letters to choose from this time around and stuff like detective and scandinavia have too many 30 point letters for me to feel like they're really worth it just for those i's and v's. if we did these words our letters would be:

A - 4
D – 2
E - 1
F – 1
I – 5
K – 1
L – 1
N – 7
O – 6
P – 1
R – 1
S – 3
T - 2
U – 3
W – 1
Y – 1

so still quite a few O's I's and N's but also a good amount of other letters as well. although we don't have to spell these words if anyone would rather spell other ones, i just had some time to mess around with it.

i signed up too lol. i find it weird that they moved it so close to the holidays. i think they said a lot of people were complaining about it being in the summer last year but i would think people would have more free time in the summer than right before christmas. oh well, i will also try to keep up ;)

i think their specifications for if someone was a 'detective' was if they solve crimes for a living and get paid for it and don't have any other jobs so if it fits all those things then i think it should. and it seems they are agreeing that if there is never a first name revealed then as long as the last name matches it's okay.

ok, i just looked at the past comments and she said she found one but is waiting on it from her library so i guess it would be good to have a backup in case it doesn't come through, especially if we're going to be doing that group first.

also i've claimed the P and one of the O's for group 1.

and i guess sophie is going to have to take group 2 task 4? do you have anything for it sophie?

yeah i saw them say they wouldn't count bounty hunter. didn't think that task was going to spark quite so much controversy lol

yeah we can start books for any of the groups as soon as we finish the countdown, but if we are reading group 2 first then you can't finish anything for group 1 until we are done with it. so we'll do group 2 first, probably a good idea since it's the shortest anyway, and then move onto group 1

also there seems to be a LOT of debate on what counts as a 'detective' over in the ask the mods and does this book work threads so i hope you are sure your detective book is a 'real' detective lol. i guess even if they decide it doesn't count then it's only 10 points and we can regenerate it in the next round

no we are doing group one but we just haven't planned for it yet. would it be easier for you if we finished group 2 first and then group 1? we don't have to do them in order necessarily, just save group 3 for last

well christine or sophie will have to grab the other one because we need 3 people to read for tasks, unless you find something for the poison author and they have one for one of the other tasks and then we can switch it up, just as long as we have 3 people reading

tineye is calling it tan but i've got two options that work so i could take that one. hopefully i will end up not hating one of them lol. not finding anything for the poison in the author's name option though

if i have a middle grade book that is not on arbookfind but does have an audio version that is over 3 hours can i verify the length that way or do i need the definitive word count?

yeah i think the yellow writing can be any writing on the cover - so title, author's name, or any blurb or quote or i guess even if the cover illustration features a sign or something. the cover is supposed to be the version you read, or the default version i guess if you're like me and just use the default edition of everything because you're lazy lol.

i can look and see if i have anything for some of the other group 2 tasks as well. we just have to have 3 people reading so one of us can take 2 books from that section if needed but either christine or sophie has to take one of them

also we get 60 bonus points for group 1 so might as well spell it out since that's 40 points each
