35559 It's quite interesting how Ende wasn't that known in Belgium, while really popular in Hungary before the iron curtain was cut. :)

35559 I feel very special & smug about it. 😉🤭

I was very happy there and I guess the safety I've always felt when surrounded by books is the natural side effect. 😊

35559 I basically grew up in a Library until my mum switched jobs from librarian to schoolteacher when I was 13. The Neverending story was quite an It-Book back in the days and she gave it to me when I was 10. I'm sure some stuff went over my head, but I loved it, neverheless. 😊

35559 I read the book first, the movie I watched much later, but apart from some basic concept, the movie haven't much resembled the book.

The book was layered and some parts really dark that may have been intended for an adult audience. (Corruption of power, etc.)

Hmmm, I should really reread it.

LOL. ...

Considering that part of our modern Xmas came from pagan rituals (and I always think of Hogfather by Terry Pratchett), some ghasty things as human sacrifice could have been involved with some cultures at one point or another. 😅

But your book is good with the food tasks. 😉

35559 Claire,

It's a good idea. :)

The book by Ende was a childhood favourite (he was a very popular author in Hungary). I recently reread Momo by him and have been contemplating revisiting The Neverending Story. ;)

And it was an awful one too, would have been good to get some extra use out of it 😆"

I finished it in the morning, but only did the update before I posted , and only realised by chance that it was actually working for a last monster task 😅

Thank you... it is. And the mountains with their snow covered tops just make it all the more Christmassy!

Plus, they make me want to break out singing from the top of my voice: THE HILLS ARE ALI-HI-HI-VE WITH THE SOUND OF MUSIC.... 🎼🎵 🤭

🤣

Yes, and I haven't even mentioned the Market place with its stalls, selling Christmas wreath & red berries, etc. I was strong enough to pass those by, but broke down by the Xmas shop. That was too much for me 🤭

35559 Greetings from the enchanting city of Salzburg, dear Teamies!

This challenge has a lot to answer for, for the way I've spent my money today.

I mean I was wondering to my heart's content in the town with its olde-worlde historic buildings and meandering streets and of course I couldn't pass the quaint Christmas & Easter shop with its bright windows oozing Christmas decor & atmosphere. The scale is from modern, to gawdy, to traditional and of course I couldn't resist buying stuff I absolutely don't need.

It's those Xmas books I'm reading ... or that's what I'm telling to myself b/c normally I'm trying to avoid this until the 2nd half of Nov . 😂

35559 Happy belated birthday, Elisabeth! Also to your partner, Alysa. 🎂 And well-done on the progress with your chunkster.
My husband's b'day is 2 November. 😊

It's not something I would actively seek out for myself, but she has her audience. :)

35559 I keep reading about her and her performances. I find what she does both courageous and disturbing

Elisabeth,

I think you should leave it at MPG Art. That's so much trickier to find. :)

35559 Well done, Sophie. This sounds exactly like my prolonged adventure with the Kate Daniels series. 😅

I still have 2 books to go.
Oct 25, 2025 11:49PM

35559 Thank you, I will enjoy it for sure! 😊

The train journey from Bp is 5 hours, so I'm hoping to finish a good chunk of a Z book.

35559 Sounds like a great w/e, Karen.

Yesterday I spent the whole day packing (brrr 😖), but for a good "cause". And now on a train with the family, Salzburg-bound. 🥰

We will be back next Friday.
