The book I will be starting next is

I'm still working on

If not, I started a quick read last night Game On with the intention of using it to meet that goal. I just needed a break from the emotional distress of Trail of Broken Wings but I'm sure there will be a chance to use it in the future.

11. With new developments in some of our characters back stories, which one did you find the most interesting and why? Did it change the way you viewed them? And how?
I'm very interested to read more about Nina and Matthias. Learning more about them has made me not dislike Matthias as much. I really hope I don't end up hating either of them.
12. Kaz comes a little unglued... What's your take on that? Is he truly heartless and self seeking like he likes to be seen? What did you think of what he did to Oomen, and do you think that revealed anything?
I think he came unglued out of frustration and anxiety, unless there is an element we aren't aware of yet. We found out in the beginning that he's not against using violence to meet his objective so the Oomen incident wasn't totally out of character. We know for sure he has a weak side, but we'll have to wait to see.
13. We get to see the history between Matthias and Nina! Who's side are you on? And who do you think Matthias will choose in the end?
I still don't know enough about the court procedure that resulted in Matthias's incarceration. I have absolutely no idea how it will turn out, but his superstitions run very deep.
14. There are a lot of references that translate to today or modern history: street gangs, slavery & ships, human trafficking (brothels), and underground arenas for entertainment. Do you find their hard circumstances justify their criminal ways, or just make you care for them despite them?
The corrupt life they lead only exists because it appears to be the norm. There are certain areas in their realm that have strong government presence but other areas that have absolutely none. Joining gangs might be the way to survive in the non-merch class.
15. Lastly! what's with Kaz's gloves?! Hands stained by blood? Too sensitive to touch? Any theories out there?
I think there is nothing wrong with his hands, but he enjoys the mystery around them.

Chapters 5-9, pages 69-133
6. Putting the plot and characters aside for a moment, what do you think of Leigh Bardugo’s writing? If you regularly read YA how does it compare in quality. If this is your first YA book, is the quality of the writing what you expected?
Her writing style is excellent. I like that she keeps sentences to the point and doesn't rely on continuous commas to drive a itforward. And she doesn't over use unnecessary adjectives - a quality I respect in a writer. She's far closer to a JK than a Stephanie, which might be the highest compliment I can give to a YA writer.
7. In Part Two, we meet Matthias Helvar. Nina said, “Helvar is driven by honor and only honor. You can’t bribe or bully that.” Do you think that statement is accurate based on what we learn about him during his rescue?
Seems pretty accurate. He's accepted the position on the team for the only chance he might have to regain his honor.
8. I enjoy world building that has enough connections to the real world that I can picture what’s going on because of this relationship, but the scenes are still original and creative. I think Bardugo does a good job with this concept. What connections have you thought were particularly well imagined?
The Wandering Isle red heads of the Emerald Palace and the even deeper connection to the migrants/ wandering Irish of Yeats.
9. Since Wylan turns out to be Van Eck’s son, how do you think his role with the gang will play out?
I really hope he gets the chance to prove himself. A twist in the story where Wylan saves the day.
10. Now that we have met all six members of the gang, do you have a favorite?
I really like Inej. She's straight forward and keeps he emotions in check. She fits in well in the stereotypical men's world of gang life. Keeps to herself and doesn't show her cards. But, the ever expanding mysteries of Kaz makes it a close call between the two.

1. Do you like the book so far? Why did you decide to read it? Is this a genre you normally read?
It's absolutely charming. There is already so much potential. The sleeve blurb is what drew me in. And reviews from teammates. I'm not a big fan of fantasy, but this seems like it will be an exception. And the book cover and black page ends are amazing!
2. During the parley in chapter two, Kaz tells rival gang member Geels: "A secret's not like coin. It doesn't keep its value in spending." What does Kaz mean by this? Do you agree with him?
A secret is only powerful when it remains a secret. Once told, you no longer have control over its potency. Agree!
3. Inez seems to have led a very interesting life so far. What do you think her relationship with Kaz is? Does she have romantic feelings towards him? Is Inez someone you would trust? Is Kaz trustworthy?
I trust Inej because she lacks the mystery Kaz does. She is religiously motivated. I am unsure about Kaz. He doesn't seem as stable as Inej. There might be something between them, but if Inej came from brothels then she might be iffy in that area or Kaz might assume she is. He also seems to assume that he could have no effect on her because of that past, yet we see that isn't the case.
4. If you could have a magical talent like the Grisha, what would you want your talent to be? Which category of Grisha types (listed in post 102) do you think would be most helpful to us in the real world?
It's not a Grisha type, but I would love the ability to fly. I don't think that's magical though. Maybe a Grisha could pop some of those crazy drugs and morph me some wings.
As far as Grisha types, I'd want to be a healer. It might be the most beneficial to society as a whole. But, alkemi would be the best for me personally.
5. Have you read any of Leigh Bardugo's other books? If so, would you recommend reading her Grisha trilogy before reading Six of Crows?
Nope. This is a first.
