35559 I've covered the diacritic with a book from my library visit.

35559 I’m off to the library tomorrow (public holiday today) to collect The Dickens Boy. Will look for John Le Carre to fill the last diacritic spot. Or failing him, Crete or horn on the cover. Have to be short because TDB is longish, I think.

35559 I put The Dickens Boy by Thomas Keneally in set on a farm. The blurb says so but I’m collecting it from the library for my book group so won’t know how much until I read it. Should be okay I think.

Also can reread Bonjour Tristesse by Françoise Sagan for the diacritic if no-one else has something in mind.

35559 Snowtulip?
Sorry got it. The link didn’t work for me.
Hi Snowtulip. Welcome. Hope you’re ready for some interesting reading,

35559 I’m really enjoying my books so far. Loved rereading The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham . Funnily enough I discovered a lot more in it than when I read it at school. Very interesting discussions about the rebuilding of society which entails people discarding all their preconceived notions and beliefs about how society should operate. The new society needs to develop new methods in order to function and survive because everything else has gone. It was written in 1951 so gender roles were different and also the Cold War was full on. Very thought provoking.

Also have a copy of The Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder which I’d forgotten about until I saw it on the list. That’s an interesting book too, which I’ll reread after I finish my Agatha Christie with the sheep’s horn on the freaky looking cover. Murder is Easy by Agatha Christie

No doubt you can tell I’m enjoying this!

35559 I agree. I moved it. I have another book that could be used for a word but something else might pop up in the text.

35559 What do we think are going to be the hardest tasks in the mini? I have The Day of the Triffids down for the small hidden word but just came across harvest in the text. Seems a bit harder than the word thing.

35559 I just reread the rules and realised that we can use received books in our mini but not books we send. That makes sense for the helping each other out part so long as the books have been read in the right time frame. eg we have a book that only fits a mini task we've already completed,

Mind you I could be making that up, thinking I understand it hahaha

35559 I agree we should send something and see how it works out later.

35559 I can’t find this in the rules and can’t remember…do mini books need to be started after June 1 or just finished within the mini window?

I understand it a bit more now having reread the supply drop instructions. Am I right in thinking the books we send have to have a defence for the protection part as well as another thing eg food?

35559 How do you put an e with an acute accent into the spreadsheet? For Andre Malraux. I can't do it here either. This is beyond my meagre computer skills.

35559 I have two books that fit the diacritic task. Both French authors.

Bonjour Tristesse by Françoise Sagan by Françoise Sagan, one of my favourite books. It’s a regular reread.

The other is Man's Estate (La Condition Humaine) by André Malraux by André Malraux which I’ve had for decades but have never read.

Also Murder is Easy by Agatha Christie by my go to challenge author Agatha Christie who can always cover some task or other. There is undoubtedly a horn on the cover amongst a bunch of other weird things.

And I just finished one that has them all A Superficial Journey through Tokyo and Peking.

Thanks Shelby. It looks fairly straightforward—after checking what a diacritic is haha

Questions re supply drops—what is the point? If there’s no quota needed in each area why would we boost another team? What does our team gain? What if we drop a few books and they give us nothing?

Last week of autumn for us. I don’t get sick often but when I do I seem to get one of these horrible viruses usually around now for some reason. Although apparently it’s when the new northern hemisphere bugs journey south.

35559 I’ve been sick in bed with a non Covid virus for 3 days. It’s marginally better today but I’m over having stuffed up sinuses and being partially deaf in one ear. On the plus side I’ve finished Jude the Obscure and two other shorter books.

My husband is doing a great job as cook and nurse but thinks he might be getting it too. We did Covid in relay☹️
