No too much, just having some family stay for a few days over Christmas and the rest of the time we'll be relaxing. How about you?

Rightio, I'll go switch the editions. I thought it was based on what we posted to the Books Read page, but I'm guessing the update is automatic when I post to my shelf?

35559 Hi ladies, I've just noticed on the spreadsheet that my book Pretty Girls has been given the page number of 688 and 80 points, but the mods specifically told us not to use that edition as it was the large print version. Instead we were told to use the 544 edition for 60 points. I just bring it up as I don't want us to get in trouble for using the wrong edition.

35559 38. We find out how far the conspiracy went in chapter 21 and finally Claire makes a move to make it public. Were you surprised by the extent of people involved, or did you expect someone to be involved that wasn’t?
I wasn't particularly surprised, although it was pretty horrible to find out Huckabee was so involved in Julia's death. There wasn't anyone that wasn't involved that I thought would be.

39. Chapters 22 and 23 had me on the edge of my seat. What did you think of Claire’s rescue plan? Would you have done the same thing knowing you couldn’t trust local law enforcement and authorities that could come to the rescue are too far away? Keep in mind that all this happened in the space of two days. I would have been more inclined to let Nolan know and less likely to go in by myself. To me fire is too hard to control to be something I would have used to bring Paul out of the house. As it was it nearly killed Lydia and Claire.

40. What do you think of chapter 24, do you need some sort of happy ever after or would you have been fine with how chapter 23 ended? By the way, what do you think of Claire dating Nolan? I don't mind a wrap up of where characters are in the future and I loved the fact Claire was dating Nolan, what an unexpected turn around on her part.

41. I liked that the last word was given to Sam. It had me almost in tears by the last sentence (I have to admit I’m a bit of a daddy’s girl). What did you think of his dream, walking his eldest daughter down the aisle? I found Sam's parts of the story heartbreaking and probably an accurate assessment about parents would feel in that situation. When you look at parents whose children go missing they fight for years to try and find them, like Julia's father did. A good example of that in Australia was the parents of Daniel Morcombe.

42. Did you watch the video posted on the group page? This is an interview with Karin Slaughter about her book and what inspired her to write this story. Do you think she described the effects of the disappearance of a loved one on the remaining family members well? I wonder what her dreams are like if you can get a story line like that from one of your dreams. What about you?
I think she shows the long lasting effects on families well. That sort of thing would haunt families for a long time. Karin Slaughters books are all pretty gruesome so I'm not surprised that one of her dreams turned into the events in this book.

43. This is a standalone novel and written from the victims’ point of view. Most of Karin Slaughter’s other books are part of series (The Grand county series and the Will Trent/Atlanta series) written from an investigators point of view. Do you think you would have experienced this book differently if it was written from the pov of an investigator? I think there would be more distance to the horrible things that happened? Would you read other novels by Karin Slaughter? I think it's more of an emotional read when from the POV of the victims so the reader gets more involved in the storyline. I really like her Grant County series and will be continuing with that as the opportunity arises.

35559 So many good books that I read this year.

Books published pre-2015
The Martian by Andy Weir Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy, #1) by Pierce Brown Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton

For books published in 2015
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins Golden Son (Red Rising Trilogy, #2) by Pierce Brown Marrow by Tarryn Fisher The Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons

My favourites were a mix of genres and I could have added more but I tried to narrow it down to the best of the best for me this year.

35559 Discussion Questions - Chapters 5-7 (Day 3)

13) Now that we're almost a third into the story, how are you enjoying it? I'm really enjoying this book. I love the mystery and trying to piece together what's happening and whose in on it.

14) Why do you think Adam is pushing so much for the files Paul had? Do you think it has anything to do with the embezzling or the videos Claire found? This part is a complete mystery to me - I hoping it's just the embezzling.

15) What do think of Captain Mayhew? Did you think his asking about all the possible places copies of the videos could be was suspicious? He's totally dodgy. I'll be shocked if he's completely innocent in all this.

16) Why do you think Paul had Lydia under surveillance every year? Do you think he was obsessing after the one that escaped from him or that he felt guilty for what he tried to do? I think he is just a sicko who likes to see how his crime has affected his victims over time.

17) Do you think the videos that Claire found are real? If so, who do you think is the man in them (since Claire ruled out Paul)? I think they are realand I reckon the guy in the them is Captain Mayhew.
