35559 I just downloaded the full cast audio of The Tempest. That would work, too.

I'm checking all my books for a/an.

I like EF Benson. Have you read Angela Thirkell? She's similar, but nicer about skewering her characters. I'm about done with The Brandons and enjoying it enough to probably jump right into the next book.

Ha! I don't like the Oxford comma, unless it's necessary for clarity. :)

Just finished Eats, Shoots & Leaves The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss , which was #92 on that 2005 Amazon list.

My DD, DIL and I are all punctuation/grammar nerds, and I used to keep this book on the coffee table and read bits for fun. (Though I don't evaluate e-mails and forum posts, as I'm a lousy typist and I give others the grace I'd like to receive. lol)

35559 Let me read Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation for the new goal. It's #92 on the list, and will probably take me longer to find it than to actually read it. Then Sarah won't feel pressured to rush through 1776.

Going off to peruse the book shelves. I know I have it somewhere...

If you do read it please let us know what you think. I've wanted to read it for some time but I can't get it through the library and I don't know if it would be worth buying it. (I try not to buy books if I can help it. I have a very restricted budget and am trying to reduce the # of books I own, not increase it. lol) I'd love to hear your opinion.
35559 I believe the previous total should be 1,729,762

Both my daughter and daughter-in-law have lost babies. It's a special kind of pain, and one of the unfairnesses of life that I still struggle with, in part because I volunteer with foster kids. Why some people can have them and others can't... But as you show, life goes on and it can still be good.

In my job I deal with people who aren't at their best, and I always try to remember that you can't look at someone and know their story. It makes it easier to "Judge not". :)

35559 Congrats to everybody for houses and books read!

I've finished Vision in Silver, which it turns out was published in March 2015. It's not my usual genre, but I really like this series. (Also, note to self, these books have "chamomile" puppy treats.)

I also finished Earthly Delights, which had "radishes" in it. "Opening the oven to see if a cake is rising is like pulling up radishes to see if they are growing." location 3261

It has a quote I love that goes with our discussion of finding more time to read. Corinna and Daniel go to a club where a death thrash metal band is blaring out lyrics about Andre Norton & Frank Herbert. Their friend says, "They combine education with heavy metal. In concert they throw cheap editions of the books at the audience. Their motto is 'the faster you go deaf, the more time you have to read.'" lol

35559 Sorry to make a bit of trouble here, but at the 50% mark I find I can't bring myself to finish A Beauty So Rare. Even if it was published in March. It just makes no sense and the MCs are driving me crazy. I'll see if I can find something else...

Very true. I'm not sure the loss ever goes away, but it does lessen. And to be there for others gives our trials some value, I've found. In the Western world we have this idea that we control our destiny, yet so much really isn't in our hands. I believe in the God of the Bible, but it doesn't mean I get a free pass to avoid trouble. So I try to find ways to accept my situation and use where I've been to help others. And while I'm trying to figure out what's next I get a lot of reading done. :)

Thanks. Honestly, I'd be happy to have less time to read because I was spending it with family. :) But you live the life you have... DH was 50 when he died. I'll admit I wasn't emotionally prepared.

Audiobooks in the car are great. They help keep the kids from squabbling. Not that yours would do that, I'm sure. ;)

35559 Melissa wrote: "How do you read so many books so quick? Do you listen to audio books?"

lol I'm a fast reader, for one thing. I always have been. It takes me 2-5 hours to read the average book. Also, I'm a widow who lives alone, my kids are married and live away from here, I have insomnia and only a part-time job. And I don't watch TV. So there's lots of time to read.

But, yes, I do listen to audio books, also. DH and my parents died within 3 weeks of each other and my last child at home got married 3 months later; I went from a home full of people to one that is too quiet for my taste. So I have audio books going a lot - at home and while I drive. Sometimes I listen to books while I walk or work in the yard, via mp3 players. And I find by having several books going at once that I can always find something to fit my mood. Fortunately I have access to OverDrive so I can easily feed my book appetite. :)
