Lights Out!: A heist thriller involving the Mafia by Donald Bain.
Finished 8.24.16
Rating: 2 stars
Hardback, 192 pages.
For the ! mark, because it has one. Also because the characters had a lot of shocks.
I finished Lights Out!: A heist thriller involving the Mafia and it may be my least favorite book so far. There was nobody to root for -- I like at least one person I like in a book.
Sorcery & Cecelia: or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot by Patricia Wrede & Caroline Stevermer
Finished 8.24.16
Rating: 5 stars
Kindle, 336 pages (says goodreads -- but it was really 255. The info seems to be wrong as this appears to be the right edition)
Bank. I read this to cheer myself up as I didn't like my assigned book.
I switched to a short book for the ! because it has to go back to the library tomorrow, and I'm really not liking it! Ugh! I want somebody I can root for in a book. Oh well, it will be done tonight.Let's hope for better luck with the next card. It would be cool if we did a card for each shape!
Let's try the bank approach for the next card and and see if it inspires us. We'll pull all the non-pattern books off and see if it gives us a jump-start on the next card.
I'm confused. I thought we got a new card when we submitted? Can we re-do the same card?Do we submit the extra books we read that fit the card but not the pattern? Or do we bank those?
And I'm serious about someone stealing my 2nd book -- I'll have it done by Friday if no one does, but it looks like it will be the last book the way everyone else is speeding along!
Changes by Mercedes Lackey

I don't think it fits anywhere useful -- it would match Rain as the lack of is a big plot point, and then a huge storm hits for the climatic scene.
Wow, everyone is going super fast. Ang, do you have an ! (exclamation mark) book? You could grab that spot while I read my black gardening book.
Carmen, now I'm all nervous about you liking Sweep in Peace. Hope it works for you!I have Snow Child on my TBR lists as well, so let me know what you think, Moonlight. I keep not picking it up despite all the good things I've heard.
I'm off to volunteer at the other school, and I'm bringing my book on how to make yard work easy. My book Eureka! for Exclamation Mark is something I really want to read so I'm switching my spot, but if anyone wants Exclamation Mark I can switch back to Q.
And I'm going to sleep now, but I just wanted to say that I staked out 2 boxes and started one of them, and if we end up going with Lucky 7 I also found possibles for a few others. So if anyone wants to grab my Q spot (the other one I took), just move me out and move one of my other books into a spot. I figure I can finish two books by Friday, easy. All the books are ones that I need to read eventually, anyway.
Hey, I know some of you like Ilona Andrews. Have you tried her Innkeeper's series,
and
?Because I think Sweep in Peace would be a great fit for the Peace square in the top left. And they are fun books, tested by my Friday book club.
How is Friday for our next submit goal? Is that too far off? Too close? Books we enter into the grid we think will be done by Friday?
Two more questions:1) Title contains State-- does that mean the word "state" or the name of an American state, or do we decide?
2) Does biography include autobiography? Especially if the book is tagged both?
I'm about to finish
, and the big scene where the bad guys kidnap the girl involves a major storm with flooding levels of rainfall. Do you think that works for the rain square?
Any patterns that look nice? I think Lucky 7 and Love Letter are pretty. And the bonus for Free Square is nice.Do we have to invoke a bonus or do we automatically get it for the next card when we turn one in? Do we have a "free square" for this card or is it in the bank?
