35559 What about French Fries? Do we want a cook? A book set in France? A character who doesn't eat healthy?

I just finished a book where the guy is from a species that hates potatoes, but it was more of a deal in the first one; it just gets mentioned a few times in this one. (They both have eaten the worst things to impress the other -- he ate a potato and she ate a pie with a live scorpion-thing in it).

35559 For the hare:

A superfast read?
A book with someone so overconfident that they fail? (turtle and the hare fable)
A book with a child with a stuffed animal (it looks like a stuffed hare to me)?

OOOOOOhhhhh -- does anyone read the Aunt Dimity mysteries? She has a stuffed bunny she talks to. I'll put a hold on the one at the library.

He hates potatoes? Seems a bit of a stretch for the french fry square though.

35559 OK, if people have banked books now's the time to lay them out and we can see if we are close to another pattern.

Personally, I've got nothing, although I could finish up my gardening book for the watering can guy.

35559 Carmen, not the family drama with the SIL. That was lame.

I got in my trouble with my family for not writing a thank you note to my aunt for hosting my dad's memorial. We moved it to her town and all my siblings and I moved heaven and earth to travel to them to make it easy for them to attend, and then paid for everything with little input on what to do (which really bothered my sister), and somehow I was the bad guy.

35559 Wow, Carmen, that was awesome!

I say for the new board we put in the banked books that a lot of us have and see if we are close to any pattern.

If we are going for aesthetic Field Goal is lovely.

I like the idea of getting them all, I have to say. I think we'll have to be speedy, though.

35559 Go Carmen! And if anyone finishes a higher point book, they can swap out for that spot. We're all easy!

We're planning to pre-feed the shark for this board, but in general it's always nice to have a back-up for a spot.

35559 Carmen, what are you thinking as a finish time for your #5? I think you and Sheila are the last two squares. I've got a book that would fit, but I'll only start it if you think you can't finish by tomorrow.

I finished my "world" book, which is a 2 - pointer. My replacement five would also be 2 points, instead of 4 like Carmen's.

My dad and I listened to Holes while driving cross-country. At first he was miffed that I had brought a "kids' book for us to listen to, but then he got interested and we had to bring the audio book inside to finish off after we arrived. Isn't it great when our families like our books :-)

35559 I just started my World book.

The page point breakdowns are pretty steep:

Points
• 10 Points per Square submitted
• Page Points:
• 2 Points - 100-299 pages
• 4 Points - 300-499 pages
• 6 Points - 500-799 pages
• 8 Points - 800+ pages
• 15 Points per submitted pattern (new card generated)

So Plethora's 400+book would be 4 points, but I might as well do my 188 page book as the 250 page one. So I'll have my world book done in a few hours, and if Plethora finishes hers before we are ready to submit she can swap 'em for more money.

Ang and Sallie should decide who gets the "the" square. I put them both in in case one book moved to a different square, but I think that was wistful thinking.

Tomorrow looks very doable! Maybe tonight!

35559 I finished Firewing, and I think it works well for Burning Firewings. I'm going to look for a world book to see if I can help out Plethera.

35559 I've got Firewing (Silverwing, #3) by Kenneth Oppel that I think should work for the bird-on-fire square. I mean, the name sorta exemplifies the picture, even though I think it's about bats.

I'll try to read it tonight while Moonlight is reading the P book and Unquiet.

35559 Sallie, would you say The Angel Experiment is written as one cliffhanger after the other? It's a Maximum Ride book, and I know the same kids who eat up the Alex Rider books go through those, but I've never read them myself.

Does my theory as "!" as a character make sense to you guys? Am I reaching too far?
Tapirs (6600 new)

35559 Well, the square is just a "!". It could mean a title containing "!", but I think a book that reads as a continuous burst of exclamation marks would fit as well, which each chapter ending with a shock! I mean, I think a square with an "F" in it would work with a main character starting with the letter "F", so it seems to me that would work along the same lines.

I haven't read the James Patterson books, but I thought they were akin to the Alex Rider books, which were pretty much one shocker after another. Alex is trapped on the roof! Alex instantly becomes an expert tightrope walker! But the bad guys cut the rope!
