I think you are doing it just right Nancy! I put a note on the card tab that your book is available, so if we need it to finish the card we'll grab it and otherwise keep it save for weapon leveling.By the way, what is your vote for our fighting strategy? Attack at all costs or fight when we are sure to win?
Strategy question: What do we want to do about the Kindlecorn (80 health, 20 attack)? It would require significant investment to kill -- I think we'd need two greater damage potions and a greater heal. (We'll be hitting for 17, and our health is 35).
Possible Battle:
Tapir Drinks Greater Damage
Smack Kindlecorn: 80-34= 46
Kindlecorn attacks: 35-20 = 15 Tapir
Tapir drinks Greater Heal: 15+ 15 =30
Smack Kindlecorn 46-17 = 29
Kindlecorn attacks: 30-20=10 Tapir
Tapir drinks Great Damage
Smack Kindlecorn: 29-34 = DEAD Kindlecorn.
That's expensive, especially since we only get a few XP points. I say throw out the card.
But if we really want to do it, let's do it now before we level up again. The five health points from leveling won't help the fight, and our current cards will have us getting the free health from levelling up in a couple of days.
So are we sneaky Tapirs who dodge the big foes (discard the card), or are we Triumphant Tapirs who battle even against all odds? Vote now!
Oh I just found a red book that is due tomorrow, so I was going to do that --
. It's got big print so I should finish by tomorrow, when the library wants it back.I stuck my prime in the prime spot. I'll see if I can find another long-running cozy series to read to help get us up to level 8 in between working on the cards.
If you finish first Sheila then I'll probably stick in in prime, because those are a pain to look for. And I picked it up because it was prime (and because it was due at the library) and then remembered it was a series.

Sheila, you've got Demon Rumm down for one of the "under 200 pages" books, but under reason you have "romance." Is it is short romance or did it get put in the wrong spot?Everyone, I'm hoping to finish The Raven King tomorrow. It's the 4th in a series, which would finish off Weapon level 7. It has an odd number of pages, which would almost finish off card 9. Which is better?
Em, what are we supposed to do with Queen Skye's scavenger list? Do we find the words in text or do they have to appear in titles or on the cover?

I guess I don't understand why we waited then. Isn't it better to battle right before we level up, instead of after, when we get healed by leveling? What am I missing?
Did we level up to four? That's a bit disappointing. If we buy and use Damage (not greater damage) potion for 2 gold, then we can beat the lemur. Then leveling up to four would heal us for free! If we submitted the other cards first, then we are stuck waiting for level five or using healing potions.
And beating the lemur gives us a damage potion, so it pays us back!
That's why I want to get as much XP as possible before the next part starts. For that we need card flow. If we absolutely don't want to spend any gold (and I vote to spend a little gold, because that's what all those books leftover from previous events are for), we should throw out a card.I'm not sure why we can't fight the lemur yet, but I know Carmen has a plan!
If we aren't going to fight the Lemur, we could discard the card, but I think we just missed the chance to replace it. So fighting it gives us a new card, which is valuable.
Carmen, are the hard monsters timed to show up later, or are they random?I've never played the book version of this, but I have played table-top D&D, and two gold for a damage portion to get the EXP doesn't seem like a wild and crazy use of resources. The monster cards should be a fast way to level up, and a higher level when we meet the tough monsters will be better for us than 2 gold in our pockets then.
This assumes that the next card-monsters is as likely to be a wimp as to be tough. If the cards aren't random then things change a bit.
If we bought a 2 gold damage potion, then attacked the Lemur:BANG On Lemur for 20 (15+5) points: Lemur at 15
Lemure hits US: 30-15 = we are at 15
BANG on Lemur for 15: Lemur defeated!
So we'd need to spend 2 gold to beat the latest monster, and then we'd get a new card. But we'd be down 15 points, and would either need health potions or a new level to get better. But we could still fight wimpy monsters that had less than 15 points. Card flow is good because that's the best way to get EXP.
Are the cards set to get harder as we get better? Because if not, and we don't have to save up potions for tournaments, we might as well use them now. It's not like we are saving anything for the next round. If the cards do track our progress, then we should save up, of course.
Sheila, strategy-wise, you should knock out cards, I think. Since we don't know what we are getting until the card turns up, it helps to have a fast turn-over. People who read more slowly can concentrate on series books and banking books for when we need money. I think we should keep at least 10 gold in the bank, but save the rest of the banked books in hopes of getting lucky with cards. Then we can drop in finished books on the cards for a fast-turnover. It makes sense to only sign up for a spot if you think you'll have it done in 48 hours or so.
What do you think, other strategy mavens?
