LOL! I love it!

I have never read this author so I can't say for sure, but I have gotten the impression that Rapture was a bit of an offshoot for her, different from her regular style. Too bad it didn't grab you :( Bummer

Karla- completed a run of 4 books!
Jennefer- completed a book of 5 books!
Tonya- completed 2 runs and 2 books with a total of 20 books!!! Wow!!!
SmittenKitten- completed 2 runs and 2 books with a total of 17 books!!!
Great job to everyone!!!!
Be sure to check out our next quarterly challenge here!

In the beginning it just was not what I was expecting. I have been known to pick up a nice regency with the whole drawingroom to ballroom to bedroom rutine. I don't mind 'nice' heros. Just was not what I was expecting from this so I was starting to get pissed.
But it's looking up so I'm going to stay the course!

Not even a forced seduction in this one, she kisses him (because she is too naive and sweet to think it will have any effect on him, just trying to get his attention to make another man jealous) and then just goes along with his gently removing her cloths and worshiping her body. What??? No fighting him off, no slaps in the face, no screaming 'I hate you' or 'you are the last man I would ever lie with!' or some such nonsense! When he realizes she was a virgin, he immediately feels the need to offer to marry her!!! When she refuses because she just knows her family would not approve he then proceeds to follow her around like a lost puppy dog trying to win her heart!
I am giving this maybe another 40 pages or so, and if this does not start getting good I am moving on to Devil's Embrace to try and scrub all the sweetness and politeness from my mind!

There are shades of BR-ishness that is for sure! I think the unapologetic kidnapping (and refusing to release the heroine) and the near rape (you don't really see even a whiff of rape, not even a mere thought of it often in modern historical romances..... maybe by the villain but even then, not often) are the two big things that put this one pretty firmly in BR territory in my mind, but maybe just barely. Good for beginners who are not sure if BR's are really for them I guess I would say.
Hey, maybe we should have a 'good for beginners' shelf on the group bookshelf.... I think I will add that.

Anyway.... in this case I think it was a bad idea because well it just really was not all that memorable! Ha! Three chapters into my next book and I have forgotten all about Jamie and what's-her-name (really, what's her name? I want to say Clair but I know that's not right! LOL)
Now having said that, I have really enjoyed both of the Lindsey's I have read. Nice enjoyable easy reads. I know some people said they thought it got kinda slow in the middle but I didn't have that reaction. I was interested the whole way through. I like all the dialog and I like the easy prose. I was curious about the whole 'who re-started the feud' thing and really didn't have it figured out until the end. And I liked finding out how the feud started to begin with and I didn't see that coming either (well not exactly anyway). I couldn't read to many of her books in a row but I know I will pick up another at some point, probably after a heavy read when my brain needs a break. I enjoyed this like I enjoyed The Conqueror. It's not the best, not the type that will stick with me, but I just kinda liked it. It entertained me and I enjoyed reading it!
On another note, I think someone needs to defend Lindsey BR status! I would put her on the tamer end but I think Jamie was an alpha! Maybe not an alph-hole but and alpha none the less. He was stubborn and demanding refusing to let her leave and all. I didn't get the impression that he would do anything what's-her-name wanted. I see lot's of fights for power in that marriage and I think he would win most of them with her stomping her feet and locking herself in some room a whole lot.
So here is my Lindsey BR checklist (inspired by Jeanines awesome BR reviews)
hero peeping on naked heroine- check
kidnapping- double check
near rape- check
heroine locks herself in her room-check
hero kicks in door to locked room-check
hero having sex with non-consensual sleeping heroine- check
hero near death- check
death bead confession of love- check
crazy older lady relative- check
revelation of grandparents hanky panky (i.e. family drama)- check
Seems like there might be a few more good examples of BR goodness but they are not coming to mind (not that memorable, ha!). Tame for a BR, but still a BR I think. Anyway there is my two cents. I gave it 3 stars and I enjoyed it enough to pick up another Lindsey so there you go!
Ah! Sheena! I remembered! I knew it would come to me! haha

I have read some PNR but none that I can think of that are really BR-ish. I recently read Kushiel's Dart which I think a lot of BR readers would like. It is about a courtesan who specializes in BDSM I guess you could say, she is a masochist and enjoys pain. But she is really more like a priest or something for her religion, it's not viewed as trashy but a spiritual type of service. It takes place in an alternate earth and is kinda like a fantasy but it also has some romantic elements. The hero is not an alpha tho, but it is a nice epic that keeps you interested the whole way through and it does deliver in the WTF moments a bit with some details about her meetings with her patrons. There is some kidnapping and rape, attempted rape, some cool battle scenes, I think BR lovers would like it!

Crossword: Devil's
Crossword: Scarlet (classics)
Sudoku
15+16+20+12=63 ---> 6+3=9
Misc: other books I have read and may try to fit in later
Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen 72

Alpha hero is a must! It is also a plus if the book is epic in scale (a nice long meaty read with lots of travel, large cast of characters etc), cheating and forced seduction or rape are ok, and WTF moments please!
Any rec's for other modern (post 1995 or so) BR's are also welcome!

So I am just wondering what all of you are expecting from this months group read... Take the poll here!
