31308 I like the cover of Shanna too

Shanna

I think this might be my favorite of her covers but A Rose in Winter is probably a close second

Thanks Gigi :) Last night after I finished posting this I took the dog for a short walk, did a little yoga, and crawled into bed. I feel much better today, the early bedtime did me good! :)

31308 I am thinking for our second monthly read we will cycle through theme/setting/author so each quarter we do one of each... I am not going to commit to that, but with that in mind this month we are going to do a read by setting...

This month: Pirate Ship! Arg! ;)
In our beloved genre of bodice rippers, in their broad and adventurous epic scope, a voyage by ship is a pretty common plot development and contact with a pirate ship of some kind (with the pirate possibly being either the hero or a secondary character) is just bound to happen!

To participate: Pick any book with some part of the book taking place on a pirate ship! It does not have to be a major part of the book and the pirate does not have to be the hero. Any small encounter with a pirate ship counts! Again any genre is welcome, but I suspect these will mostly be historical romance novels, but hey, if you find a sky pirate in a futuristic novel, go for it! As you read or when you are done drop by here to discus how the pirate ship setting impacted your book! The setting can be a small or large part of the book you choose to read. It's up to you!

Discussion questions: In the book you read did the setting have a large or small impact on the overall book? How did the characters come to find themselves in this setting? How did the author introduce and describe the setting? How did the characters react to the setting? Was the pirate ship a place of whimsical adventure or more of a dangerous threat? Did you find the situation believable? Was the setting a necessary part of the book or do you think it could have done without?
31308 And the winner is... (my a long shot!)

A Gentle Feuding by Johanna Lindsey 1983 (ta-da!)
A Gentle Feuding by Johanna Lindsey (it's one of the famous naked Lindsey men!)
Average GoodRead rating: 3.83
GoodReads description: Duty demands that Sheena, the beautiful jewel of the Fergusson clan, wed to end the violent feud that has devastated her family. But never could she give herself completely to the handsome and dangerous laird Jamie MacKinnion – the most feared man in the Scottish highlands.
The captive prize of Jamie's sword, Sheena struggles in vain to escape the desire awakened by his touch. And though pride insists she hate her dashing enemy, Sheena's heart begs her to yield...and to surrender to Jamie's passionate love.
Availability: This is available currently in print with a very boring reissue copy, should be easy to come by. Check out Amazon and AbeBooks.

Discussions: (I am not feeling to good today, I think I am getting sick... I need to go to bed, so I am being lazy and just using the exact same questions from last month... maybe I will update in a couple days to throw in a couple different ones) What did you think of the authors style/voice? Do you find the author too long winded or did you enjoy her leisurely story telling style? What did you think of the setting/atmosphere of the story? How do characters change or evolve throughout the course of the story? What events trigger such changes? What was your favorite scene? At what point in the book did you decide if you liked it or not? What helped make this decision? If you could change something about the book would you? If so what/how?

Please be considerate of others and use 'spoiler spaces' when revealing key plot elements.

It was good :) My sister and I actually went there to run our first marathon! We ran the ET Full Moon Midnight Marathon that runs along area 51 and ends in Rachel Nevada on Saturday night/Sunday morning. It was great and a really fun trip! But not alot of drinking or gambling or walking the strip, trying to keep our legs fresh before and too sore and in need of sleep after! :) I will get some picture up in the next couple of days!

31308 Karla, Susan Johnson wrote a series of four books set in Russia! I have been wanting to give them a shot for a while because I would be super interested to read a romance with such a different setting from the norm. Seized by Love, Love Storm, Sweet Love, Survive, and Golden Paradise
