We should all just try to speak for ourselves and to avoid making comments that could be interpreted as judgmental or some kind of attack of others. (example "I could never spend that much, that just seems crazy to me!" VS "Those people are crazy who spend that much!" I know the difference is subtle but just try to be thoughtful)
Ok, that's all :)

I am very confident that Kasey meant absolutely no offense to anyone in this group or otherwise by her comment.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it so much this time around Lorraine!

Antoinette~ that is so cool about the letter to/from Beatrice Small! But did your teacher know what kind of author you were writing to? LOL

Hi Jennefer,
The Game books get better I really like all of them but the first one is probably the weakest in the way o..."
I have heard that the series is really great and that they do get much better. It wasn't even bad, I really enjoyed it and I might pick up the second one sometime. I guess I would just rather go pick up a bodice ripper! :)

Well whats the fun in that!?! Oh well, I think I will try it anyway :)

My experience with PNR is pretty much limited to the psy-changeling series by Nalini Singh (read the first 6 or so, got on a kick with them, the romance is so-so but the world building is pretty solid) and ummm.... well that might be about it. LOL I read Shadow Game and enjoyed it but not enough to get sucked into the series and Fantasy Lover but again didn't enjoy it enough to seek out anymore of her work and that's about it for me.
Anyway... a while back I picked up Darkfever as a freebie special on Amazon for my Kindle so I think I am going to give it a try. Looks pretty good, hope I like it!

Great start ladies!
It's not to late to join the fun! Sign up is open anytime until the end of December!

Just take a look at the Paranormal Romance Group here on GoodReads with it's 6,584 members and it's easy to see the impact this sub-genre is making on Romance at the moment. It's pretty fair to say that we are in the age of the PNR... so whats all the fuss?
Definition: According to Wikipedia "Paranormal romance is a sub-genre of the romance novel. A type of speculative fiction, paranormal romance focuses on romance and includes elements beyond the range of scientific explanation, blending together themes from the genres of traditional fantasy, science fiction, or horror."
I know we all love a good BR but let's go ahead and try something different :)
To participate: Simply pick any book that could be considered a PNR! This can include any romance with vampires, werewolves, fae, witches, magic, psychic's etc... As you read or when you are done drop by here to discus your thoughts!
Need a Rec? Check out these lists from Amazon: The Best of Paranormal Romance, Vampires and Werewolves and Warriors....oh, my! and on GoodReads Best Paranormal Series, Best Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy Anthologies
Discussion questions: Are you new to PNR or is this a familiar genre for you? How did the PNR you read compare to the BR's you have read? What made the setting, atmosphere, characters etc unique? Did you find other differences compared to BR's beyond the paranormal creatures or setting (writing style, length of the book, PC-ness etc)? Based on your experience and the book you read, what do you think is the big PNR draw? Will you continue to explore the genre in the future?

Almost Heaven by Judith McNaught 1990

Average GoodRead rating: 4.1
GoodReads description: In this classic novel of two willful lovers caught in a breathless adventure of deception and betrayal, #1 New York Times bestselling author Judith McNaught has created a powerful and unforgettable masterpiece.
ELIZABETH CAMERON
The Countess of Havenhurst possessed a rare gentleness and fierce courage to match her exquisite beauty. But her reputation is shattered when she is discovered in the arms of Ian Thornton, a notorious gambler and social outcast.
IAN THORNTON
A dangerously handsome man of secret wealth and mysterious lineage, his voyage to Elizabeth's heart is fraught with intrigue, scandal, and a venomous revenge.
Destined for each other, yet wary of each other's motives, Elizabeth and Ian engage in a dance of suspicion and passion that tests the very soul of their star-crossed love. As a twisting path of secrets takes them from London's drawing rooms to the mysterious Scottish Highlands, Elizabeth must learn the truth: is Ian merely a ruthless fortune hunter at heart?
Availability: Should be easy to find. Available currently in print from Amazon, used from AbeBooks or check out your local new or used bookstore.
Discussions: Ian and Elisabeth are a favorite couple for many romance readers... What did you think? Did you find their relationship and they way it develops believable? What was your favorite scene? What did you think of the authors style/voice? If you read Whitney, My Love with us in May (or on your own ever) how did this compare? How would you rate this book on a BR scale of 1-10 (1 being very tame 10 being WTF OTT!)?
Please be considerate of others and use 'spoiler spaces' when revealing key plot elements.
