Catrina glanced up, shocked. "What did you have in mind?" she asked, while inside questioning the entire situation. What if Trista double-crossed them? What if the police found them and they were thrown in jail? What if they could never start a normal life again? What if Claire was doomed to wonder as a fugitive around the world with no real home, no real family? Catrina sighed. She could drive herself crazy with 'what ifs'. "What did you have in mind?" she asked again, this time in a more serious tone.
Lonny gazed in wonder at her. 'What's going through her mind right now?' he asked himself, his gaze locked on her agonizing face. 'Does she care about anyone?' "Do you have a sister?" he asked out of the blue.
Suddenly, the somber tone of the scene was broken. Catrina looked at him imploringly. "How did...?" she started.
"I saw her once," he explained, leaving out some of the details like her ugly temper. "I wanted to find her again."
Catrina pondered the thought for a second, then turned back to Trista. "Let's find Claire first. Then I'll hear your plea." She turned quickly, making haste, her blonde hair swinging behind her like a monkey from a tree. Her silky hair ran all the way to her middle back, conforming to her curves. The sun reflected off her shiny hair, making an image of a halo around the top of her head.
Lonny felt a tinge of jealousy. 'I want to be like her one day,' he realized, having the first epiphany of his life since he decided to leave his home. He looked down in agony as he remembered his father's face, no doubt a show for him, when he'd run away. The pleading look in his eyes reminded Lonny of a lost puppy. But he knew the second he returned, that agony would turn to anger. He hated his dad so much for everything he did, but now the lines had blurred. Was his father truly that evil? Or was that just his perception of his old man?
