Catrina glanced around quickly, scanning the edge of the forest to see if anyone was catching onto them.
Claire swallowed back the lump in her throat. She wouldn't cry in front of everyone. But the last thing she wanted to do was to leave their little town. "What's up?"

Claire's heart stopped when she heard Crystal's comment. She breathed in deeply and pretended to not hear Crystal's words. Instead, she stood fixed in the same position, glancing off in the other direction.
Catrina gazed at her sister pitifully. Where were they supposed to go now? She rubbed her temples as she felt a headache forming. There were too many problems to handle in such little time.
Lonny sauntered over next to Claire. "Hey."
Claire jumped at a voice but pretended to still be angry, even though she felt glad someone had come to talk to her. "Hi."
Lonny just stood there for a moment, staring off into the trees. "It's just you and Catrina isn't it?"
Claire flashed recognition on her face but concealed it almost immediately. He was one hell of a guesser. "What's it to you?"
Lonny swallowed, not really wanting to describe his family situation, at least not now. "Well, I'd like to at least know the situation my friends are in." He looked back at her, smiling slightly but not too much as to look like a dork.
Claire looked down, trying to still be angry but not really succeeding. "Whatever. We're leaving now anyway."

Catrina's hands landed on her shoulders. "No. I don't think you do. This is SO much bigger than you think Claire. Seriously, use your head. Black ops agents in the ghetto of downtown? Either this is some sort of serious drug bust or we've been caught." She glanced away, remembering the man with the camera.
Claire read her sister's emotions but kept her thoughts to herself. "Yeah...I know that. I'm just not panicking. It's not like that would help now anyway." She looked back towards Trisha, only seeing the back of her head.
Catrina's eyes followed her sister's. "You can't care about them too much, Claire. We migrate from town to town. They have a life here. No doubt they have parents and families."
Claire knew her sister's reasoning was right. They probably had lives of their own. But what if they didn't? "I'd rather be rotting in jail and know someone actually cares about me."
Claire's comment tugged at her heart. She'd never heard her sister say such things. "Are you feeling okay?" she asked, skipping a few brain-cycles.
Claire kept her gaze off her sister's face, as she knew seeing it would only bring her heartbreak. "Yeah...I'm fine." She finally felt the adrenaline and locked eyes with her best friend. "But you're the only one who actually knows about me." She rubbed her arm as if there were a thousand ticks on it. "You're the only one who cares. So what if I want another friend?"
Catrina stared at her, letting it all sink in. "You'd rather be on death row than have no friends?"
The way Catrina put it made her feel stupid. She grit her teeth. "No. I'm saying I'd rather have a life while I still can than have no life the whole time I'm living." Without another word, she stormed off toward the group, slumping clumsily against a nearby tree with a firm scowl on her face.
Catrina sighed, praying her sister wasn't as stupid as she feared she was. She'd spent her entire life teaching that girl everything. Now she hoped she hadn't wasted HER life.
Lonny observed Claire's anger, emotions mixing inside him. Yeah, his father was hunting him down like a wild animal, and now a cute girl he THOUGHT he might want to date is pissed at everyone. Life sure was falling apart, and pretty quickly at that.

Catrina's eyes narrowed. Just how large was this crime? And why would they target an alley in the ghetto of downtown? "We should leave...NOW." She exchanged a glance with Claire and retreated into the darkness.
Claire looked back at Kamdain, regret and sorrow in her eyes. "I'm sorry," she whispered for what felt like the first time in her life. Glancing away, she finished with, "Let's get going." She stood, following her sister into the cloak of the forest.
Lonny caught sight of their departure and made a beeline for the edge of the trees, a man in black catching his eye. His eyes widened.
That was his caretaker.
He tried to swallow the lump in his throat away. But this was more than he'd expected. Had his father known he knew government secrets?
He hid in the shadows, straining his ear to hear the conversation.
"We were sent hear to exterminate," the large black man boomed, only loud enough for the other agent to hear.
"I know," he answered, rubbing his forearm in a nervous gesture. "But it is Lonny."
Lonny gripped the bark on the tree so tight his knuckles turned white.
"It doesn't matter. Lonny or not, he's still a fugitive."
Lonny stumbled backwards, lip trembling. They were out to kill him. No doubt, his father had ordered so.

That's when she remembered.
This was the string that was attached to the man's suitcase.
Catrina trotted over to Kamdain. "What's going on here?"
Claire walked back slowly, a blank expression on her pale face.
"Claire?" Catrina asked, concerned.
"Oh...my..." she started, a lump forming in her throat. Claire looked back at the fire-prone truck. "Catrina...I think we just killed some innocent people." Her eyes came back down to the string, pain clouding her judgement and mind. She'd never felt this way before, and the fact that she felt it now scared her. This was an uncertain future, and she hated it.

Shayla who should no longer be angry with her friends.

Catrina simply stared at the cameraman. "Uh...nothing really. Blood I guess?" 'Get away from me,' she thought, not wanting to be all over the news. If someone recognized her, it was over. "Um...I have to go help someone," she lied, just to find an excuse to get away from the camera. She prayed her face wouldn't appear all over the tabloids later.
