3113 {:-o don't want any more of those. after going back through and reading it today (in a much better state of mind) I have this sneaking suspicion that I was a drugged up hippy in a previous life.

3113 Jackie: I don't think the guidelines are instructing journalists to NOT photograph the Muslim family at the bus. I think the issue is presenting that family accurately. The issue is that there are Muslims from many countries, with different styles of dress and behavior. They are not all the same.

If that IS the family at the bus, then I don't see why the reporter shouldn't take the picture. And they make it very clear you shouldn't take the picture. I don't see how that is reporting the story.

I think we all agree journalism in this country is down the crapper.

3113 Lori said: But isn't it the truth that America is made up of diversity?

I don't see how that relates to the subject. The subject is they are instructed to ignore parts of the American culture because it "looks" to Muslim or whatever. So what is it not ok to live in America and live a traditional Muslim Hindi life? Why is that something to shy away from or hide?

3113 What I took from that organizations website is, they want to fabricate the context of the situation to make a story appear to be something that it may not be. I would be happy if they just reported what was happening without seeking out a list of required talking points. To me it is telling “journalist’ (using the term loosely) to seek out possible hidden dynamics of a story

Guidelines

Visual images
— Seek out people from a variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds when photographing Americans mourning those lost in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

— Seek out people from a variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds when photographing rescue and other public service workers and military personnel.

— Do not represent Arab Americans and Muslims as monolithic groups. Avoid conveying the impression that all Arab Americans and Muslims wear traditional clothing.

— Use photos and features to demystify veils, turbans and other cultural articles and customs.

If you arrive at the scene of a story I think the reporter should report what is happening there. Not run off into the night looking for diversity. Let’s say a bus blows up in NY. The media arrives, and there are a group of people off to the side wearing the full ME get up, mixed in with other rubber necks. Well the reporter isn’t going to photograph them, are they? No they are instructed not to because they “look” like Muslims. I believe that in this hypothetical situation the demeanor of those traditional Muslims might be an important aspect of the story. I don’t think I am articulating this very well. What it boils down to is I think this organization is probably the reason our news sources are so screwed up. It is a simple profession, observe and report. Not observe cook the books, and then report.

3113 Un-lawful wire tapping… how long have the dems been in majority? Long enough to do something about that, if it truly was un-lawful, My problem with most of your grandstanding is that it is all party propaganda and one liners. Go do some research, think about things with a little logic and we will debate this later on this week ok buddy. Or you can bring it up against Donna and Charissa. They both deploy a level head and wont really stand for hyper jaw jacking. Either way, I look forward to going toe to toe with you. In the kindest way possible.

3113 Ali; We need to have this conversation in full, but not today. My head just isn't in it to debate you on so many issues. Remind me in a day or two please.

3113 congress has an even bleaker approvel rating. I don't see them getting bashed at every tuen. Just saying, just throwing it out there.

3113 None of his new deal policies were intended to last. They were suppose to sunset, when the problems were over. However as you said, he passed away. I could be wrong; I am a bit delirious at the moment. I am interested in your opinion that he was a fascist. How so, I really don’t know. I myself have been called a fascist several times in my life. It always kinda makes me chuckle. If I were a Fascist would I care if I were called one?

3113 Part of the problem might be that people that go for the office tend to have ulterior motives, which are not always in step with what is best for the country. Maybe we should revamp the presidential election process. Instead of having folks run for office we appoint them. The one that wants the job the lest gets it.

3113 I wonder if that is why restrooms are called johns... you know like in men in tights.
Jun 27, 2008 11:43PM

3113 Good enough... does that include not naming a sewer after him?
Jun 27, 2008 11:34PM

3113 With all this being said, has it been determined yet if we should acknowledge his existence with a little presidential respect? That’s all I am saying, he had a tough term. Allot of big problems, with abstract solutions. I think he did the best he could, and I don't think anyone else that ran for the presidential seat in the last two elections would have done any better.

He has made some really un-popular decisions, set up some un-popular programs, and ignored some important issues. But he has been successful in one area. The enemy IS bogged down elsewhere and not knocking on our door. They are still in the yard, but my guess is they will be pitching a tent there for a long time.

3113 That was my point varmint. I agree with you. That is where the D.C. gun (lets call it what it was) ban crossed the line in a major way. I have many firearms in my house, all of which are ready to go in a moments notice.

I would also like to point out that we don't have children in the house. If we did things would have to change to protect against a child accident.

3113 I'll mess with this in a few hours.

3113 With the exception of Summer I think you are all being disrespectful. President Bush probably isn't the greatest President we have ever had, but he is far from the worse. He has had a rough term of office, which I believe would have crushed many liberal "leaders". Be fair, give them man his due, and elect someone better this time around.

Anything to improve your day Charissa.

3113 I believe an armed society is a polite society. Do you think that abusive Boyfriend would have stuck around if he knew you had a gun... would he have gone and got his own?

40 min response time that is just pitiful.
