IMHO I look at Alphas as Gigi's definition. The dominant male. The take charge type that jumps into the role without hesitation. Makes for some great tension when you have a fiesty, head-strong heroine who insists she doesn't need him.
I'm a big fan of bodice rippers but I have found that some of the more extreme bodice rippers don't thrill me as much as they once did. I've never been a fan of cheating, adulterous plot lines but some of the "forced" seduction scenes and abusive heroes have less appeal for me. A couple of Johanna Lindsey's and Catherine Coulter's that I once really liked are not so great now.
I think I have the Knight-In-Shining-Armor/Handsome-Prince-coming-to-the-rescue image stuck in my head. Carried over from my love of fairy tales and happily ever afters. I want the strong, protective alpha type rushing to my heroine's rescue whether she needs it or not. What does this say about me? Maybe I have some deepseated psychological idea that I need rescuing or something. I don't know. But I'm not limited to the alphas. I find the idea of a geeky nerd attempting to be more for his lady attractive too.
I'm not really into the addicted, tortured soul that drowns his sorrows in drugs or alcohol. I want my hero strong and ready to perform when his lady needs him. I can handle a hero who has overcome an addiction but I find it hard to read the actual struggle.
I guess in a way I expect my heroes to be impervious to many major flaws. I don't want too much reality in my stories.
I actually like them depending on the plot and the author. Having a pregnant heroine is not necessarily an auto-buy. But it's the effect it has on the hero that often makes the book for me. His realization that he will soon be a father and then the first time he holds his newborn baby in his arms. There is just something so touching and heart-felt about it.
Danielle "The Book Huntress" wrote: "I'm not a fan of After the Night's hero, Gray. I want to hire an assassin to take him out."lol me too. I hated him!
Arch wrote: "I have to get my hands on a Marliss Melton book. I have read one of Cindy's book. To The Edge. I have To The Brink and Whisper No Lies. I have to read them soon."I recommend u read the seal team Marliss Melton books in order. the first one is Forget Me Not

R ya'll talking of the "Only" series?
I love her Velvet series and A Knight in Shining Armor and The Black LyonI've liked most of her historicals but not too fond of her contemporaries.
One of my top fave authors. I've like most of what she's written. There are a few of her earlier books that I've reread within the last 3 or 4 years and found I didn't care for much. My fave books of hers areGentle Rogue
Tender Rebel
Love Only Once
Once a Princess
Prisoner of My Desire
Some of her newer stuff doesn't quite measure up to these for me but I still like them.
I do like Tony DiNozzo but he is so full of himself. Did ya'll see last night's ep? He could have found him a lady but... Sad :( Wonder what's going to happen with that woman who blogged she was in a commited relationship with Tony.

Its not really a spoiler to let u know that the heroine's baby is kidnapped at the beginning of the story. I won't say anymore.
My 2 main loves are historical romance and romantic suspense. I've tried some paranormal, fantasy and sci-fi but haven't fell in love with them yet. I have read some erotica but not really into it unless it has a good plot to back it up.
Cry No More is one of those stories that stay with you a long time after the read. I do highly recommend but its a true tear jerker. I agree with Darcy. You need a box of kleenex!
Ms Howard does have the talent to create the yummiest heroes. Even heroes that I shouldn't like are depicted in such a way you can't help but love em. James Diaz is such an example. A cold-blooded assassin.
Julie Garwood is one of my top fave authors. While I prefer the historicals (they are totally awesome IMHO) she writes I do like her romantic suspense. Yeah, Noah's a keeper for sure!
