I'm sure the scripts are written, but they have to wait to see how The Giver does at the box office to put those movie's into production.

24794 Hello and welcome Anjelica! Congratulations on your senior year and I am very impressed by your favorite authors! It took me years to appreciate them! I hope that you enjoy the group and the discussions!

24794 That is an excellent point and question Longhare! In some ways, Holden's attitude of irrelevance to authority and people in general is refreshing and funny. It would be very therapeutic to say the first thing that pops into my mind to people, however, that is not something that people should strive for in their lives. It is like complete honesty, not going to happen when I ask my hubby if this outfit makes my butt look big. The Holden's of this world make me uncomfortable, because they always push the envelope in society, good or bad, and I have a hard time handling that much conflict. I hope this makes sense.

24794 Thanks for the link Emily! I'm always amazed at how often Jane Austin is in the news.

The Giver (21 new)

24794 This is the children's read for April 2014. I'm interested to see where this discussion goes and what people's perceptions of this book are going to be. Did anyone read this in school, or did their kids read it?

24794 Looks like The Giver it is for April! This book always seems to generate such interesting discussions! Can't wait!

24794 Not sure what to do about Flowers for Algernon. Any ideas? Should it be July's read or list it in the next poll?
Mansfield Park (20 new)
Mar 17, 2014 07:49AM

24794 This is another book that was tied for second in the poll so it seemed a good fit to read it for the June 2014 group read. This is a new one for me, but I do enjoy Jane Austin. Happy reading and thanks for voting!
Dracula (39 new)
Mar 17, 2014 07:46AM

24794 During our last poll, this book tied for second and was very close to winning so it seemed like a good one to add for May's group read. Thanks to everyone that voted and happy reading!

24794 This is the group read for April 2014! I have never read this one so it should be a new adventure. Please remember spoiler alerts if the discussion is not that far along. Thanks to everyone that voted and happy reading!

24794 The group read for April is The Metamorphosis! The voting was a tie on second place that I think that we should read those books in the next two months. Dracula is May's group read and Mansfield Park shall be our June group read. Thanks to everyone that took the time to vote and visit the group! Happy reading!

24794 Rather like what Paola wrote in message 14, Holden is like a Peter Pan. Thanks for the link Emily.

24794 Hello and welcome Arja! I heard somewhere that Biblical references in books are becoming harder for people to understand since the Bible is not as well read nowadays. Not trying to get into a religious discussion. I hope that you enjoy the bookclub and happy reading!
