I have wanted to read Moloka'i for quite some time. Most people really like it.

24794 How about some nominations for the childrens read for April? Does anyone have a book in this category?
Feb 12, 2014 10:19AM

24794 It is time to nominate books for the group read for April. I nominate Of Mice and Men, it is another book with bad memories from school. If we have plenty of nominations, we will have a vote around mid-March.

24794 I'm rereading A Soldier of the Great War by Mark Helprin , plus still trying to catch up on my series reads.
Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth , One Corpse Too Many (Chronicles of Brother Cadfael, #2) by Ellis Peters , Finding Nouf (Nayir Sharqi & Katya Hijazi #1) by Zoë Ferraris , A Very Private Grave (Monastery Murders, #1) by Donna Fletcher Crow are just a few that I'm trying to read this month.

24794 How is everyone doing with this one? I'm still plugging along and it is a slog.

24794 Hello and welcome Maureen! Those "to read" piles are like loose socks in the dryer, they both grow very fast! It is fun to go back and read those books from school and realize that you can now understand and appreciate them for the great literature that they are. Some wonderful things come with age and that is one of them, at least, for me. I hope that you find some great books and wonderful discussions!

24794 I have always found the title of this book ironic. What do you think makes Gatsby great?

24794 This is the group read book for February. I read this book 3 times in high school. For some reason it needed to be drilled into my brain. For that reason, I have no fond memories of this one so I'm interested in reading it now that a few years have passed. The only movie version that I have seen, is the one with Robert Redford. Did most of you have to read this in school? What was your perception of it then? Did you reread it and have that perception change?

24794 Thanks for your input Casceil! I really had no notion of dropping people from the member's list, I just thought that it was an interesting notion and since most people that commented in this thread, seem to actually monitor this group, I wanted to get everyone's ideas.

24794 I have been deliberating this question and still can't decide if it is a good idea. I think that every mod would like their group to be open, fun and active. I can understand that, but what do you think of the idea that mods delete members that have not commented in a thread for more than 3 months? I can see the thought process behind this, but I also know that many people like to lurk in groups, reading the books, but not commenting. Is that wrong? I don't think so, what do everyone else think?

24794 I have an obsession with trying to get my series that I read in a current status. I have never realized how many series that I read. So, the other books that I'm reading, besides Macbeth: Circle of Heroes (The Familiars, #3) by Adam Jay Epstein , Fire (Graceling Realm, #2) by Kristin Cashore , Revenge of the Wrought-Iron Flamingos (Meg Langslow, #3) by Donna Andrews , The Trouble With Magic (A Bewitching Mystery, #1) by Madelyn Alt , An Uninvited Ghost (A Haunted Guesthouse Mystery, #2) by E.J. Copperman Shakespeare's Champion (Lily Bard Mysteries, #2) by Charlaine Harris X-Rated Bloodsuckers (Felix Gomez, #2) by Mario Acevedo , Inferno (Robert Langdon, #4) by Dan Brown . Just the latest batch from the library! Love that interlibrary loan!
It seems that this thread does not come to my email updates, does this happen to anyone else?

24794 I wonder if this book has dropped off the required reading in many schools? It seems like a book that would be found in AP lit courses, or some kind of advanced course.

24794 Nancy was rather forgotten wasn't she? I thought that the dealing with Godfrey seemed forced. I can't make up my mind about Nancy, if I liked her or not. She just seemed to wilt by the end of the book. Maybe, there is a lesson there?

Something I try to remember every day, but it is easy to let life run away from you. I'm still blown away that it is 2014.

24794 First of all, happy New Year Everyman! I have been out of town this week, so sorry about the sound of crickets coming from my quarter. I love your different synopsis of the book. I thought that it ended rather abruptly also. The most disappointing part was when Marner returned to his former town. It just seemed so out of place and disappointing. I was rather hoping for some closure of some justice, so that was very disappointing.
