Heidi, first, sorry it took so long to answer you about this. I think since you have such a unique request, that putting it under General would be just fine for now.

Interesting idea, let me see what I can do.

22225 Erin wrote: "I'm sure there are some great ones out there, but I tend to stick to the Goodreads one, as well, because I don't want to be locked into reading a particular book/genre at predetermined times. I like the freedom to jump from book to book as my mood dictates. "

I know what you mean. When I do try a challenge, I prefer the ones that are very flexible. For example, ones that challenge things like reading 26 books, one by an author for each letter of the alphabet, or a title that begins with each letter. I don't like the ones that limit my genre, either.

I'm the same. More often when I rate a book 2 stars or less than 3 stars or more, I make sure to state why I did not like the book. As they say, one person's trash is another person's treasure, just because I did not like it does not mean others just might love it.

22225 Do you do any reading challenges, other than Goodreads yearly one? Would you like to try some here? Should I create a folder in here in B.B.A.A. for reading challenges?

22225 When you are talking to an author in person, do you refer to them by first name or as Mrs. or Mr.? How about when communicating with one on social networking, like Facebook or here on Goodreads? Or if you send them a letter via email, or even snail mail? If you are talking to that great author Jane Doe, do you just call her Jane or do you use Mrs. Doe? Please share here.

22225 I know most of us like to add to our libraries, but how many of you ever subtract from your collections? What do you do with the books you decided to get rid of?

I'm not sure if I can really say I subtract from my collection, since pretty much the only reason I ever get rid of a title is if I find another copy in better condition. And If I do remove a book, I often end up trading it for another title at a Little Free Library. So in effect, I often end up removing one and adding two in its place. lol. How about you?

22225 Clare wrote: "Well done Erin!! I thought I'd been naughty, because the last thing i need is new books."

Clare, welcome to B.B.A.A. If you ever feel you don't need new books, just remember these wise words said by Jeanette Winterson, "Book collecting is an obsession, an occupation, a disease, an addiction, a fascination, an absurdity, a fate. It is not a hobby. Those who do it must do it."

As well as the the Book Buying Addicts mantra said by Desiderius Erasmus, “When I have a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes.”

I fine way of thinking, don't you think? ;-)

22225 Clare wrote: "In 2015 my goal was 50 books and i had read 55 by the end of the year. I am part of another group and this year i have pledged to read 52 books and listen to 36 audiobooks. However like Lin i becam..."

I know what you and Lin mean. For me, it was in August that I wasn't so confident I would reach my goal. I was only at 60% finished, so I changed my goal from 332 to 275.

But then in November, I did reach that goal of 275 books. And at the end of the year I ended up passing that original goal. But yeah, there was a bit of stress there that really should have been, so I'm just going to aim for 300 and let the chips fall where they may.

22225 So how did everyone do on last year's challenge? I ended up with 336, aiming for 332. It was close for a while though, so this year I'm going to just aim for 300 and see what happens. How about you, what's your goal this year?

There's one quote mentioned that I think fits the members of Book Buying Addicts Anonymous to a T:

“Book collecting is an obsession, an occupation, a disease, an addiction, a fascination, an absurdity, a fate. It is not a hobby. Those who do it must do it.”

22225 I have to laugh at where I am Challenge-wise right now. At the beginning of the year, I set my goal at 332. I figured with looking back at the last four years' challenges, I've averaged about 28 books a month, so multiplying that by 12 months gave me the number 332.

Then in August, I wasn't so confident I would reach my goal. I was only at 60% finished with 4 months to go, so I changed my goal from 332 to 275.

In November, I reached that goal of 275 books. On December 5th, I hit 300. And today, the 30th of December, with one day left to go, I just read my 332nd book! I reached my original goal with a whole day left in the year to read! I really should have more faith in myself. ;-)
